Tourist Visa Extension/renewal/re-issue

Featured Replies

Hi! Hopefully this is not a totally stupid question but one can never be too sure with visa info.

We are a Canadian male 36yrs & a Japanese female 34yrs

We'll fly into Bangkok on July 24th.

Our return flight is dated Sept 08, which is 47 days later.

Firstly, is there any problem arriving at BKK without prearranged visas expecting to get stamped for 30 days when our departure is 47 days later?

We will go to Laos Vietnam & Cambodia and return to Thailand for the last part of our trip.

If we re-enter Thailand after our original 30 day stamp has expired, will we automatically be issued a new 30 day stamp?

If we re-enter with a few days left on our original 30 day stamp it will not be enough to last until our flight leaves.

Also a 10 day extension is not enough time either so can we get a new 30 day stamp at the time of re-entry?

Thanks for your help,

Jiefu

as far as i know i think you shouldn't have a problem, but i'm not 100% sure

The requirement for issue of a 30 day visa exempt entry is onward transportation within that 30 day period. Unless you have tickets to fly out within 30 days the airline may not let you board. It is almost never a problem at Immigration for first world travelers but it is the law.

You get a new 30 day stamp on each entry.

We are flying in to BKK from Japan so do you mean, they might not let us board the plane in Japan because we have no prearranged tourist visa and our return ticket is 47 days later and not 30 days later?

If this is the case, how can I confirm this and what can we do about it?

Thanks again

J

You must have a ticket out of Thailand within 30 days - it can be to Laos or Vietnam if it suits your travel. Otherwise it is best to have a visa before you start travel.

Ok so I guess that means we need to arrange a 60 day tourist visa in Japan prior to departure or is there another visa we should get?

I wouldn't go to that trouble as you will not have any problem with doing as you suggested in your OP.

They will have a problem without a Visa OR a pre booked ticket out of Thailand within 30 days of entry.

Ok so we probably won't have onward tickets so I'd like to confirm that the visa we need is the 60 day tourist visa or is there another kind of visa for which we should apply?

Also, with the prearranged tourist visa (not the 30 day stamp), is it cancelled when we leave Thailand and then we just get a 30 day stamp when we come back in to catch our return flight or do we need to arrange some kind of a re-enter permit for our prearranged visa?

Finally, are there any restrictions on the border crossings into Thailand that provide a 30 day tourist visa on arrival or is it available at all entry points to Thailand? (A reminder that we are Canadian and Japanese and so qualify for 30 day visas on arrival.)

Thanks again for everyone's help and hopefully once these questions are answered we'll be set.

JC

A tourist visa is all you need. There should not be any need to keep the permitted to stay date alive as you should have less than 30 days remaining and a ticket out on return so entry will not be a problem. All entry points provide the 30 day stamp.

OK so that's that! I bit of a pain and ($_$) to have to get the visa in advance but we're not complaining at having an extra 17 days in the area!

Thanks for all the help,
