here is my questions, please help a newbee couple.

were a english couple (both from england) both in our 30s

we spent 30 days over in feb, 30 more in april and coming again for 30 days in july. so under the 90 day rule we should be fine. is that right so far?

now the big question is

we both want to move over in september (but how do we do it?) visa wise that is.

i see a lot of ex pats under 50 living there but how?

do they just come on a 30 day entry stamp and stay? how does visa runs work.

all help welcome

thanks

Wait for a reply from the specialist (lopburi4) In my case i have a 1 year multi entry visa but i am married to a thai! you might be able to get a 1 year visa if your gonna work, like teach english or something!!

Under 50 means no retirement visa :o

Not married to a Thai means no 'married' visa :D (it's not really a married visa but a non-o on the grounds of visiting spouse)

You could get a double entry tourist visa which will give you two 60 day entries, each of which can be extended by 30 days. After that's finished nip down to Penang or KL for a new TV.

Since you're in the UK, the best option is a multi-entry non-o class visa (on the grounds of visiting friends) from the consulate in Hull, you'll have to do a border run every 90 days but you can stretch to 15 months in Thailand before you need to get a new visa. Unfortunately that means a trip to the Uk or (possibly) Oz.

How are you going to finance your stay, the Thailand Elite card could be an option if you have a spare couple of million Baht, do a forum search for more info.

There are options for education visas.

We'll need a tad more info as to exactly what you intend doing whilst here to give better advice :D

EDIT and welcome to Thaivisa :D

Do you plan to work over here? if so you will need a multi entry 1 year non imm type B visa! If you dont plan on working you can get the visa i have multi entry non imm type O.

Multi entry is vaild from the day you get it from the embassy. The date you enter thailand they will stamp your visa with 90 days permitted. Before the 90 days r up exit the country and re enter giving you a further 90 days. If you exit the day before your visa expires (12 months from issue date) you can get another 90 days stay, so 15 months as stated b4!

Yes. A Multi Entry Non Immigrant Visa from the Hull Consulate. This would give you up to 15 months but would mean leaving Thailand and coming straight back every 90 days.

Your options when this expires is anybodies guess.

what do other people do?

Return to home country and get another or go to Malaysia/Laos/Vietnam etc and get tourist visas.

I'll re-iterate my previous request, how will you finance your stay and what do you intend doing whilst here. There could be other options open (elite card etc.).

some money in bank, but cant tie it up.

my guess is ill end up with a bar, end up loosing it all and end up back in the uk within 3 years or so. but in the meen time going to have loads of fun

(please to leture on owning a bar)

Ok, come with non-o visas from Hull, easiest option and you can get a work permit against them should you need to start work.

Do NOT sell any property in the UK, rent it out as an income source.

If you're going to start a business, make it something other than a bar, please :o

If I were you, I'd not move here yet. Spend another 10-15 years working your socks off in the UK (coming here on vacation) and save every bean at which time you could be in a position to retire with only 5 years or so of mucking around before you can get a retirement visa.

You are however young enough to pick up the pieces and start over if when it all goes pear shaped.

Maybe they have a Thai spouse, or work here, or have a business, or get back to back tourist visas, or Education Visa.

Or staying illegally.

I agree with the other posters; your best bet is the Royal Thai Consulate in Hull.

Here is their website;

http://www.thaiconsul-uk.com/index.asp

Apply for a Non-Immigrant Type O (other) visa with multiple re-entries. Hull is one of the few consulates that will issue this visa for the reason of 'visiting friends'.

This visa will give you permission to stay 90 days inside the glorious "Land 'O Thais" amongst the ever smiling yet diminutive people when you arrive. After the first 90 days are up you must physically leave of the country and re-enter (done with what is called a 'visa run'), giving you another 90 days. You repeat this process for a year. Given your age and the career path you are endeavoring pursuing you have little other options.

I would run out of fingers and toes (and FWIW I have them all) just counting the people I have come across here who have opened a bar only to either lose it to an unscrupulous partner, or lose all their money trying to make a go of it.

If you're not afraid to lose everything, nor afraid of going back to the UK empty handed and slogging it out again to rebuild your nest egg, give it a go.

I sincerely doubt you could pick something more fraught with peril, other than possibly marrying a thai girl, or is that spelled tiger?

Never the less, good luck,

as i posted yesterday (not very clearly) it sounds from reading your further posts and others that hull 1 year is prob your best bet, i couldnt add the link yest but someone else has, and although i have never been to thai cons hull many friends have and at the momment it would appear very user friendley, you can also post your passport and i think it could return within a couple of working days all done, i hear cost is approx 100 quid (each).

this will get a year in thailand, (90 days a time, border run, done in a daytime) then you can learn a lot more here on the ground of your options, if you still have finaces to and want to stay here.

Good luck with whatever you do, people might say dont get a bar or laudry as they know many people who have lost money etc, there are the same sort of people back at home that buy shops etc and go bust etc, do what you want but deff do heed advice, it aint england and things are very different here, having said that there are many on here that have stayed out and owned buisness etc 10/20 years!

chris

ps, on the visa from hull, im not 100% sure so ask them (they do return emails as well) that you only get 3 months to actully start to use the visa ie your arrival time in thailand!

all the best!

The visa from hull (as with all Thai visas) is valid from its date of issue, it cannot be post dated. The process is quick (same day if you actually go to the consulate) so you can apply a couple of weeks before you fly and get the maximum stay (15 months) out of your investment.
