I'm gonna buy a new desk top soon when I get to BKK on my next leave and was going to purchase a unit and load on my own copy of Windows XP (the CD came in the box with the unit that I use at work in the Middle East). As the unit will be used primarily by my Thai family what do I need to know with regard to enabling a thai language display when I get the unit set up? I don't wanna buy a unit with a fake XP copy already loaded that maybe would already be thai language enabled. Do I haveta purchase anything to load along with the XP copy I presently have or will I haveta buy a copy of XP in thai?

thanx in advance...

XP (at least in the US) will support Thai for display and key entry purposes. If you are wanting to convert to Thai menus, etc then you likely need a localized version.

In the Control Panel, locate the "Regional and Language Options." Click the "Language" tab and you will install the files necessary to support Thai (Complex Script). After doing this, then you can go to the "Details" button on that tab and install the additional keyboard files specific to Thai. I use this at home in the US.

You'd probably want Thai Fonts too - search in google there are several free ones knocking around.

Installing the Thai script is easy enough as already mentioned, what you could consider is..............when you buy the computer ask them to partition the harddrive for you i.e if its a 160gb drive split it into 2 partitions of your choosing ,lets say 100gb and 60gb then have them install thai windows xp on the 60gb partition and your copy of xp can go on the 100gb.

At start up you will be given the choice of which operating system you want to use...........the thai one or the english version. :o

thanks for your replies...sounds like there's no gettin' around adding additional software. The machine should come already thai - enabled I would suppose but the purchaser is not likely to receive the original CD for the thai version of windows. As I would like to use the unit meself when home on leave thaiflyer's suggestion having the hard drive split into partitions for thai and english windows sounds good. Can anyone recommend a retail outlet at Pantip that would do this for me?

thanks again...
