Last night, between the hours of 20.13 and 20.23, a period of ten minutes, I received 1,258 junk mails, most of them telling me a message I had never even sent was undeliverable. Is this a record, and are there no laws against these morons that do this. Really, I should have opened and checked each one, in case one was legit, as I send about 20-30 e-mails a day, but most of the time I just run the mouse over the sender to see if it looks right. Most of them have RU, which is Russia of course. Anyone else experiencing these problems, and is it possible to fit a junk filter? Although I find that most junk filters filter out good mail as well, so you have to check everything anyway. My e-mail address is connected to my website as well.

I use Thunderbird and you can setup message filters easily, either by content, subject or sender. Some of my filters are for Viagra, watches, etc. :o You can set the filter to *.ru and dump them to the junk box or auto delete. One problem I see now is the spammers who generate their spam entirely in an image file so filters don't work. Thunderbird though can prevent opening of images if desired.

If your getting bounce mail it means they have been using your email as the outbound while spamming and thats the bounce list coming back..

That could mean your machine is compromised with a spambot or that someone elses machine that has your email address within thier contacts was compromised.. Either way expect your spam to jump as the email gets passed around a lot more out there.

It's part of the Mozilla family (Firefox) and can be downloaded free here > Thunderbird. I find it straight forward to install and setup. It uses a wizard to create your first e-mail account then you can others later if you wish. Plus you can import your e-mail from Outlook express if that is what you are using now an a couple of other clients.
