Retirement Visa London

I am going to visit the Thai Embassy in London to hand in an application for a retirement visa.

Anybody know if the passport can be returned by post or if I will have to travel to London to pick it up.

I imagine that the passport can be posted back to you, at a charge, but you would need to confirm this with the RTE. Their premium rate help line is totally useless by the way but if you stay on the line and press the right buttons you will eventually get to speak to a human - possibly even in English. Good luck.

Answer is no you have to go back and collect it in person,i did this in November last year 2007.

I used to live a bus-ride away from the Embassy and after reading numerous reports on TV and then getting very helpful telephone advice, I decided to use the postal application services of The Hull Consulate. Absolutely first class service and job done within 4 working days.

I would like to suggest this would also be your easiest route.

No, but they can issue a Non O, single or multi, that can be extended based on retirement once the OP reaches Thailand.

No need for expensive UK medicals or Police checks.

Not correct, unless they have changed the rules recently. Previously it was acceptable for a third party, e.g. a courier service, to both lodge the paperwork and collect and forward the passport. Submission and collection in person was not a requirement. Check with the RTE web site.

Bearing in mind that during those two years you run the Risk of the 800K

Bank Deposit requirement being increased.
