Western style wedding in thailand?

Gatsby

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!  I am new to the board, but I really like it quite a bit.  Sorry to post a question as my first post, but I am really wondering about any good websites with info pertaining to a western style ceremony in Thailand.  Or does anyone have personal recommendations?  Basically, we need a nice place for a wedding, a photographer and a hotel or venue to have a reception.  Her aunt is a taylor, so the dress and suits are no problem!  Any and all suggestions would be welcome, but we are looking for something small (only about 20 guests) and nice.  Thanks in advance for any info or advice!

Hi Gatsby and welcome.

Where's the future bride from in Thailand? Most hotels in the major towns could provde what you need but you should sus them out personally first, and spell out what you want.

Unless the bride is from Bkk her family may have other ideas tho'!

Most hotels can arrange your wedding for you.  But if your bride to be is Thai, she will probably know what to do.

There's a Thai website called www.weddingsquare.com where lots of information about wedding ceremonies in Thailand are available.  It is in Thai though.

Well, she and her family are from BKK.  Middle class, she graduated uni and works the TAMC and speaks great English.  She wants a Western style wedding but I am not in BKK to help her with the planning.  I usually surf the web for any major decision or purchase I make but I was coming up empty on this front.  I will be back in BKK for her birthday in Nov and we will start the serious planning then (we are planning for a april date) and she is not at all a traditional Thai woman in many ways.  Actually, she is the best blend of East and West I have ever met, guess that is why I am marrying her!   Also, her family is fine with whatever she wants to do, I paid no sinsod and they just love that I treat her good!  No problems that many of the other board memebers seem to be having thankfully!

Gatsby,

Congratulation!  Anyway, I'm sure your bride-to-be will know what to do and where to look.  If not, send her the web site that I've paste on here before.  I find it really useful (umm BTW I don't benefit from them whatsoever in case anyone wonder!  heheheh).

I'm not so sure what she means by Western style.  Normally, a typical middle class Thai wedding involve a Thai ceremony in the morning (monks invited to bless the bride & groom etc etc) and a sort of party in the evening which is (sort of) like the reception in the west.  Does she mean she does not want the morning ceremony?  Or does she mean a church wedding (sometimes also referred to as western style in Thailand)?  My guess would be the former but I don't know.

If there's anything I can help, please let me know!  :o

D80,

The website you posted was exactly what we were looking for, just a place to get some ideas.  And you are correct about the "western" style wedding I refer to.  She doesn't want monks at the wedding, but also doenst want it in a church.  I think the morning ceremony will be outside somewhere with the reception at night taking place at a hotel.  At least that is what she has planned right now!   I am taking a back seat in all this, but I wanted to get some places and ideas to sort of help her out.  I told her "I will worry about your Visa, you worry about the weddding"  But then after thinking about it, I decided to try and take a more active role in the process.  She was very happy about my change of heart to say the least =)   So it is back to BKK in November to start the plannning together!  Thank you so much for the response and kind words.  Of all the messagage boards I have visited recently you are far and  away one of the most helpful and thoughtful posters out there!  I dont know what type of wedding we are going to end up having, neither one of us are the most coventiona or traditional  people =)
