INTJ
Hi, Looking for recommendations for a good resource to buy a reasonable size quality safe, also an idea of how much to expect to pay. The Leeco brand don't look to good with the hinge on the outside, but there again I'm no safecracker, maybe they're OK ? Thanks in advance
soundman
Office Works (good selection), Macro (good prices), maybe Tesco and various specialty "safe" shops. other than that I don't know much about quality and security issues with various brands. Cheers, Soundman.
INTJ
More interested in the specialist safe shops, if anyone knows any ? The ones at Tesco etc tend to be the smaller digital hotel type which I've already got, I'm looking for something more substantial. Cheers

A_Traveller
If you are in Bangkok there is a specialist safe supplier opposite the main Jim Thompson store on Suriwong. Regards

Thanks in advance Leeco are fine, never mind the external hinges, there are dead bolts both sides of the door. Hinges could be removed and you still not open. Gary A
Outside hinges are not a concern. The dead bolts hold the door in. A good friend of mine had a huge safe. It would take at least six people to move it. Sounds good? Not so good. The safe was mostly concrete with a fairly thin skin on the outside and the inside. The thieves used a chisel and a hacksaw blade to open it. They cut the outside skin and broke away the concrete. The opened a hole big enough to fit the hacksaw blade in and sawed the inside skin away. They opened a hole big enough to reach through. They scattered his important papers all over the place but found no money, gold or jewelry. The cash, and gold jewelery were in a locked box in the left hand upper corner. They were discovered by a Thai man my friend had watching the place. He was cut with a knife (not seriously) and the thieves escaped with nothing except household goods. The cash and gold were still locked in the lock box. No doubt if they had had more time they would have gotten to the little lock box. A good safe has a heat treated inner shin that makes a hacksaw or chisel useless. I doubt you will find a quality safe here in Thailand. My friend was quite relieved to be able to open the door and discover his valuable items were still there.
pampal
Outside Khlong Thom market in Chinatown there are some big safe shops, but most are mechanical combination or key lock safes.
