How Quickly Can My Wife Get A Tourist Visa For Oz

Featured Replies

My company contacted me about a possible trip to Sydney in a couple of weeks, just for a week.

I already have an entry permit for Oz since my last trip was on the same passport, but it's very short notice, so wondering how quickly I can get a visa for my wife.

(She has a Thai passport, but has Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK, and tourist visas for Schengen and the US, so I'm hoping it should be a fairly painless rubber stamping job. We also have kids in school here who wouldn't be coming, and the house here, bank books etc...)

This is solely a question of how quickly the embassy can issue a tourist visa. I don't see much likelihood of it being refused.

So long as all the paperwork is in order and can demonstrate reason for her to return to Thailand e.g. job, house, children etc etc you'll get the tourist visa same day.

Take your passport as well, and a letter from your company asking for a visa to enable her to accompany you on trip. It'll be a breeze.

Didn't actually tell the company that she's coming yet, so that letter isn't available. (but went to the embassy today. They did take a copy of my passport - and back on Tuesday, for a hopefully quick interview and to pick up the visa?)

Only problem I had was I only had cash for the fee, so after getting to the front of the queue had to leave, go to Bank Thai across the road for the cashier's cheque, then back to the end of the queue again...

Just to let you know the result - she was issued with a visa today (no interview, she just received the passport with the visa in it).

So Australian embassy is fairly quick, especially as it's her first visit to Oz.

(application handed in on Friday - visa picked up on Tuesday).

Dear BKK_Mike,

I can beat that by far. I married my Thai wife here on Chrsitmas Day 2000. My son lived in Sydney and he sent us a letter asking us over to Sydney for our honeymoon. He gave details of the house he lived in and that there was a spare bedroom for us.

I provided the Oz embassy with the letter, photos of us together, a copy of wedding certificate and a medical insurance policy and we were in and out of the embassy in twenty minutes flat, with the visa.

That must be a record.
