Renewing A Retirement Visa

Featured Replies

I have read in various posts that upon renewing a Retirement Visa, the 800K needed in the bank does not necessarily have to have been there for 3 months. It does for the very first application, but not when renewing.

Can anyone confirm or deny this ?? - as the wrong action taken could lead to dire consequences !!

Thanks in advance.

I just renewed my retirement visa two days ago...I needed to show a minimum of 800K THB in my Thai bank account, and it had to have been there for a minimum of 90 days. Don't forget, you'll need a letter from your bank stating your account number and balance, and that there has been at least one deposit from outside of Thailand. My bank actually noted the number of transfer (over the past 5 years), the dollar amount, and the corresponding THB. Don't forget to have photocopies of your passbook, and the actual passbook for Immigration to peruse.

I can't speak for every immigration office but the one at Sriracha, Chonburi told me the 800k must have been in the account for 3 months when applying for an extension for retirement.

Of course it's less if you have proof of income from a pension.

Jomtien is telling people including me using the 800K it does NOT have to be there in advance when applying for SUBSEQUENT extensions. They are saying the 90 day is only for such first time extenders. However, nobody has come forward to post who has significantly tested this, as yet.

Sorry to move away from the exact subject, but I have a related question.

My superannuation pension is comfortably over the prescribed minimum, but my provider will not pay it overseas. It must go into an Australian bank.

No problem with the proof of income, but do I have to prove it's coming into Thailand?

Thanks.

No, you do not.

Thanks Jingthing. :o

800,000 / 3 months . Depends where you apply.

Old Croc. Only need proof of income, not proof of transfer. Although they will probably need to see a bank book with some kind of cash movement.

Hello,

My personal experience is that upon renewal of "retirement" visa proof from the bank that I have a minimum

of 500,000 baht in my account for at least 90 days prior to date of application. This info was given to me in

conversation with the processing officer. I have been renewing my retirement visa since end 1991.

Hope this helps. I find the officers very helpful these days.

You only have to show 500,000 because you were grandfathered.

For an alien who entered Thailand before October 21, 1998 and continuously allowed to stay in the Kingdom as a

retiree, the following shall Apply:

(a) He/she must be 60 years of age or over and has regular income. His/her bank account deposit shall not be

less than Baht 200,000 a year and evidence of the account deposit for the previous 3 months must be

shown; or he/she has a monthly income of not less than Baht 20,000.

(

:o If he/she is under 60 years of age but not less than 55, the alien shall have regular income with a bank

account deposit of not less than Baht 500,000 a year and evidence of the account deposit for the

shown, or he/she has a monthly income of not less than Baht 50,000.
