Tony Blackburn, jeez, he must be getting on a bit now, a nice fella though, I always felt sorry for him, apparently he was broken hearted when his wife left him....

I still think that the Northern Soul night at the Ice Drome (ice skating) was fun, I think it was on sundays.....

the good old days !!!!!!!!!

I have managed to organise a 60's Northern Soul evening on 20th September

for all you stompers out there.... The problem is, I can't publish where for fear of having

this thread removed as I have known links to the venue (Although I receive no pay).

The venue is walking distance from Carrefour, if you keen

to attend and have a stomp, call me on 0853888030

Any active soul fans that can find a Bangkok venue

let me know and I'll happily bring along the tunes...

Keep the faith!

Managed one time at the peer with the Northern soul nights and it was wicked. I later worked there during the House era. I have to say that the music and dancing is amazing.

Some tunes for thought.

Time- Edwin Starr

Needle in a Haystack-??????/

First Round Knockout.- Joe Frazier

I Go to Pieces-forget but a very sad song and a great double side song on the other with Break a Tail Feather ( I think) and Panic ??????

Ghost in My House-??????

The theme from Jo Ninety

Weak Spot-Evelyn Thomas

Ski-ing in The Snow-????????

Twenty Four Hours a Day-Barbara Pennington

Reaching for the Best-The exciters

Out On the Floor-Frances Nero

Ahhh great memories, I could go on. maybe there should be a new thread with some classic songs from Northern Soul. I wish this night was in Bangkok.

Cheers for that I was rattling my brains for the I Go To Pieces. I have the vinyl and many if not all you have mentioned at my Mothers loft in the UK (maybe thats my pension :D ) Besides great memories these were the first raves and discos. Wigan Casino and all the venues were great places, besides the skinheads at the railway station that you had to run from.

Thanks for bringing back some awesome memories. I was so ecstatic I was doing a bit of dancing ( you know for old time sakes) and the misses thought I had lost my marbles. I have to say that my drops and flips are reduced to back rubs and knee touches :o . but I can still live in hope. :D

Update on Pattaya's First Northern Soul night:-

The bar warmed up around 8.30pm, to the sound of Joe Tex 'show me'

and after a few hours of heart wrenching soul music, one of the two

locals that were present said ' Can you change the music, mate, this is crap'

Badly publicised? or culturally and socially inept local pool of people? you decide

all northern soul nights in Pattaya are cancelled, end of the story......

Sorry it didn't get the support you were hoping for.

There was a club/bar in Jomtien Complex called Echoes that opened a couple of years back and they were trying to run a Northern Soul night if I remember rightly. It never worked out at that place either and they closed not too long after opening.

If you ever think of trying again speak to Barrie who owns the Butcher's Arms on Soi Buakhao. He's a Wigan Casino veteran and well into his Northern Soul.

Pleased I made it purely by chance there on the night - I am not knowledgeable of Northern Soul but really enjoyed the music. Pity one of the local big mouths had to ruin what could have developed into something different and interesting.

Any Northern soul fans, keeping the faith in Pattaya area?

I used to DJ at 100 club many years ago, thinking

of organising a monthly event in pattaya area...

For the un-aware Northern soul is 60's/70's rare soul music,

has had (and still has) a huge underground following in the uk

for decades (Very popular in Northern clubs),

If there are a few stompers around, let me know....

Used to be a regular at Wigan, St Ives, Cleethorpes, Pendelum etc and still a regular on the scene but mainly local clubs nowadays.

We're about to move out to Koh Samui so tried entering 'Northern Soul in Thailand' into google and found this site.

Are there any clubs/bars playing Northern over there?

Eddie Edmundson runs 'Soul in the Sun' holidays twice a year to the Canaries. Everyone books their own flights and hotels but Eddie hires a bar for 2 weeks where it's nothing but 100% Northern......oldies and new tracks too. Gets about 250 soulies from the UK every time, just fantastic!! Dance floor packed every night.

Anything similar happening in Thailand?

Happy to help try and start something up if enough people are interested. In Spain they now hold a niter at a hotel in Valencia 4 times a year........maybe something like that could be a start?

Soi Arunothai is Soi 1 off Pattaya Klang, turn south at the traffic lights near Big C Extra (Carrefoure)

To make that easier.

Heading up Pattaya Klang from Beach road towards Sukhumvit Road turn right at the traffic lights at BigC Xtra.

Heading down Pattaya Klang to beach road from Sukhumvit road turn left at the lights.

Shagwell Hotel is on the corner of Arunothai Soi 7 which will be on your left hand side.

Shagwell / Wombat / Outback are all part of the same complex between soi 7 & soi 9.

Large beers 65 / 75 Baht for Chang / Leo.

Friday is happy hour all night. Music stops at 01-00 each morning.

The Northern Soul Night will be held in the Boomerang Bar, next to the Wombat Hotel (27 Soi Arunothai, Pattaya Klang, Pattaya City, Chonburi 20260, Thailand, opposite Nirum Condo), on Saturday 26th May 2012, the cost per ticket is 400 baht, that includes free San Miguel Light and free wine from 8.00pm till 10.00pm. All proceeds from the 400 baht go to charity.

Check out the Boomerang Bar, i believe it has the best live music in pattaya with our Filipino Band, playing 7 nights a week. Great drink prices, happy hours etc. Hope to see you all there.
