Yes, there are mobile phone viruses that travel via bluetooth. Best to keep the bluetooth turned off, free beer or no free beer :o

I tought anything could only be uploaded to your phone through bluetooth if you accepted it first. So how can virusses be uploaded if you don't accept the bluetooth connection.

From the other side it is now against the law to use your phone while driving( on the street that is ).How can all those connect their headsets to their phone if they do not open bluetooth?

It seems people turn it on to automatically accept. Its better to either set it to accept only with permission or turn it off and turn it back on when driving.

I remember reading somewhere on the net where a guy walked through a busy shopping mall with his bluetooth turned on but set to only accept with permission. He said his phone beeped at him regularly. Frankly, that would drive me nuts. Mine is turned off except when I drive. It only takes a second to turn it back on.

Mind, these viruses attack "smart" phones, my nephew bought a used one that had a virus on it already. Took some effort to get it off too.

When this guys phones beeps means that someone is seeking for other bluetooth devices.Something that can not be automated and a search for devices normally stops automatically after a few seconds if no device is found. But yes maybe there are evils around that have something in mind with connecting to another phone.

I have bluetooth on all the time - but the profile is "hidden"

the only time it should be "show to all" is when you are "pairing" it to another of your devices ( PAN - personal area network ) or temporarily if you intend to send/recieve something from a friend.

still you can be at risk , but it is very minimal as they would need to be very skilled with the bluetooth protocol and running some specialized software on a computer , but if your data is that sensitive do not carry it on your mobile phone.

Bluetooth has matured.
