Renewing 'ed' Visa

Hey,

I've been in Chiang Mai for about two months now, and my visa expires on the 27th of November. I've been told that I need to do a "visa run" to get it renewed, and the closest place to do this seems to be Mae Sai at the Burmese border.

I looked through the guides, and none were specific to my particular trip, and I'm looking for more information on who/what/where/when/how for the trip.
