Anyone else here plays TF2?

I have no idea why, but previously, I'd be playing TF2 for a bit, then the game would minimize itself, or defocus. sometimes I'm able to at-tab back into the game after a few minutes, and other times the game just stops responding.

So. Read on the net it might be that I didn't have enough RAM, so I went out and got 2GB more. (Had 2, now 4gb.)

Now, the game crashed out with a 'hl2 needs to close' type of error.

Anyone knows how I can fix this? The game is unplayable now. Could it be the RAM? I'm on Vista Ultimate, if it helps.

First try disabling User Account Control; from memory..

1. Start > Start Search > type in MSCONFIG; press enter > in System Information window click TOOLS tab

2. Select "disable user account control" (or something similar); then click the LAUNCH button

3. close all windows, and reboot and test game

Otherwise disable Data Execution Prevention; do this (again from memory)

1. Start > Programs > accessories > right click COMMAND PROMPT and select "run as administrator"

2. in the black command window type this command and press enter

bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff

3. Close all windows, reboot and test the game now

Had something similar happening with Portal on Vista.

Try this.

Control Panel > System And Maintenance > System > Advanced System Settings > On the Advanced tab go to setting under Performance then Data Execution Prevention.

Set it to "Turn on DEP for essential windows programs and services only"

Hi all, thanks for the replies.

I'm somewhat embarrassed to find the solution to my problems. Apparently, while plugging my new RAM in, I dislodged one of my old RAM sticks slightly. Also, from severe OC'ing, the memory on my graphics card is burning out.

Realigned my RAM, underclocked my graphic card's memory a tad, and now everything works fine again. :o
