Buying Booze At Big-c

Featured Replies

Well, after almost 2 weeks in Pattaya, I finally managed to get out my bed early enough to go to the shops proper instead of the local 7-11. Went to grab a couple of bottles of wine and was told i couldnt buy any booze until 5pm. Is this a law or just a Big-C thing? Thought Sweden was bad for buying carry-outs, but this is daft! That's the last time I surface before darkness! :o

It's the law. It's supposed to prevent kids from buying alcohol. TiT. :o

The good thing is most supermarkets are open 24/7 ...

I know the 7-11's are open 24/7 but i don't think the supermarkets are, they usually close around 10-11pm, don't they?

I think sales are limited to 11:00 - 14:00 and then 17:00 - Midnight?

Purchasing in excess of 10 Litres is permitted during these times when sales of a single bottle are not.

Restriction on sales affects 7-11 as well, but if you try a small corner shop you will be fine during these dry periods.

I have worked in Sweden - yes even crazy Thailand is better than Swedish law.

Foodland is open 24/7. I think the same goes for Best and Friendship.

I have no intention of making a habit of it! This daylight stuff is no good for my pale scottish skin! :D

...as is the Tesco on the dark side.

Villa 24/7 too. As you sound like a heavy imbiber, if you buy in quantity, you can buy at Foodland at any time (as they have both retail and wholesale liquor licenses). I think "wholesale" is 10 or more bottles/cans at a time.

Booze can be problematic in the more oganized stores out of hours. The tills won't let the staff sell it. The small Thai shops are a little more flexible. :o
