can I keep and use my O-A M visa later, which is still good for a while?

are there other times you are able to have and hold more than one visa?

and only use one at a time when need be or want to?

Believe policy changed in June and it has become possible for a work permit to be issued on a retirement entry so expect you will not have to change.

Sunbelt reported that it is now possible to get a work permit on a retirement visa. However they were only able to do that in Bangkok and so far not in Nonthaburi. So indeed give it a try and please post the result if your not aplying in Bangkok.

why should we even bother with immigration???

since all i need is the work permit

since the contract will only give me a stay until July 09

and with the OA-M i could probably get another year in DEC and stay until DEC 09

or get and extension in July 09 if i renew my contract

If the labour department is willing to issue a work permit on your current visa than there is no problem. You do not need to tell immigration about your work and can extend your visa based on the requirements for retirement instead of work.

Don't believe immigration has any direct action to take on a work permit - that is between you and Labor. Only if you need an extension of stay would immigration become involved from my understanding (but have never been there/done that).
