Recommended Posts

googled it got, http://www.seat61.com/Thailand.htm#Bangkok...o%20Nong%20Khai

Railway under construction: Construction of the railway from Nong Khai across the Friendship Bridge into Laos started in January 2007, and was due to open as far as a new rail passenger terminal at Tha Naleng, just on the Laos side of the Bridge, on 18 April 2008 (although in practice it didn't, and is still not open as at June 2008, due to legal problems). An extension the following 12km to the suburbs of Vientiane is being studied.

It's is running already (at least that's what I have been told). Of course it's only a few KM into Laos, the line would extended into Vientiane in the near future.

Aside from that, the train takes a long time (from Bangkok), much quicker to take the bus to Nong Khai.

First they said April, then August:don't hold your breath! :o

Methinks they haven't decided how to process the passengers yet.

Anyway, for the5Km,it will be only worth if one stay on the train all the way from/to Bangkok!

for you maybe, i dont want to be stuck on a train for 12 hours, the short journey will do fine, or maybe from udon if it goes through there? if it is open, i would have thought someone lives that area!

thanks all

chris
