A friend says he wakes up every morning with a heart rate of between 100-130.

Should he be concerned. He also tells me after a couple of hours usually but not always his heart rate goes back to normal which is between 60-80.

I am a bit worried about him. Should he see a cardiologist???

Definitely without a doubt, but it could be a relatively easy diagnosis such as sleep apnea.

Yes, he should. Either see a cardiologist or book a complete physical inclusive of a stress test and mention the problem to the doctor at that time. If he hasn't had a full check up recently the latter may be the best approach. After reviwieng check up results the doctor might then refer to a cardiologist.

Waking up with a heart rate above 100 is definitely not normal.
