BRIT ROBBED AND BEATEN UP BY PATTAYA MOTORBIKE BANDITS

An ex-British social worker man was robbed by 3 Thai guys on motorbikes, on July 31st, 2008 in Huay Yai. He was forced at gunpoint to stop his motorbike on the roadside, and then repeatedly bashed with a wooden plank with a nail in it. The Brit fought back, but was beaten until he collapsed. The suspects then fled with his property and motorbike.

At 1 PM, Mr. Robert Arthur Page, (52), a severely injured British citizen, limped into the police station, aided by a cane and his Thai wife, to report his assault and robbery by a gang of Thai thieves to Pol.Lt.Col. Chaiporn Nathongpieng, Banglamung Police. The incident happened in the morning in Soi Plastic Factory, Sark-gnaew- Baan Ampur road, Huay Yai. He told police about his ordeal and that the robbers had fled on his motorbike after beating him up.

Mr. Page told police that he used to work as a social worker in Beckenham, England, but was now retired, with a Thai wife, living in Pattaya. At around 5 AM, he had apparently been returning home on his white Honda Wave 125 I after drinking in a Soi Bua-khao bar, in Central Pattaya. Reaching an isolated spot, just 500 metres from his residence, he was suddenly corralled by three Thai guys on motorbikes, from the side and rear.

Then one of the pillion-seated assailants forced him to stop at the roadside at gunpoint, while another leapt off his bike and proceeded to repeatedly bludgeon him with a spiked wooden plank. He attempted to retaliate, but was soon overpowered and collapsed. The motorcycle bandits then took his wallet, containing 4 ATM cards and about Bt2,000 cash, an LG mobile phone, stole his motorbike then rode away.

Mr.Page was then fortunately taken to hospital by a good Samaritan. He had sustained injuries to his head and nose, requiring 20 stitches, bruises to his leg and a fractured right knee and was aching all over. His wife later took him home.

After making his report, police had Mr.Page peruse criminal files to attempt to identify the suspects, who they hope to arrest soon.

This is bad.

An LG mobile ??????

Seriously, this is a risk for any of us drinking in Soi Buakhao at 5.00 a.m. - and the 4 ATM cards were there for...... what?

Why did he wait 8 hours before reporting this crime? No faith in the police perhaps or maybe there is more to the story. :o

Also why would a married man, and a former social worker at that, be out drinking at 5 am! :D He should be thinking about how his actions reflect on his respectability and his standing in the community.

As for the perpetrators of the attack, I think a sentence of of 10 years actually served would be appropriate. With the crap medical care available to prisoners, hopefully at least one of them would die in prison. (Like that prince from Liechtenstein).

'He should be thinking about how his actions reflect on his respectability and his standing in the community.'

yeah right, nothing wrong with socialising to the early hours, some peoples fun involve time outside of the stereotye it doesn't mean they drink themselves silly like some idiots in patts.

Hey, I am a former social worker, but I always go home by 4:00 a.m.! Anyway, some of those poor, destitute girls need a bit of counseling to help them with their problems that have driven to such a demeaning profession.

I hope he makes a full recovery.

Man, hate to say it but you wouldnt catch me out and about at that time with

cash and credit cards.Times are tough now in Pattaya. Thais wont think twice

about doing someone over thats an easy target and knowing there is little chance

of being caught. Poor bloke, hope he is OK.

Maybe because he was being attended to in hospital?

Your are right, we are all easy targets. Especially after midnight, and a belly full of beer. I feel safe in Thailand most of the time but like any city in the world we are prey to those that look for an easy score. Always keep your wits about you and you won't be sorry in the morning. It is easy to let your guard down in the pubs with the friendly attitude but on the street after midnight things can be quite different.

I, like you, hope the bloke recovers quickly,
