Not being particularly enchanted by, endeared to, or enamored with females in the glorious "Land 'O Thais", or of the Asian persuasion in general, I have no (in)significant other to sing the praises of to the masses about how much she is a "good girl".

One would be lead to believe from the all too numerous postings on this forum; that foreigners here are married to and/or involved with only "good" girls. In retrospect if I had a baht every time a foreigner prefaced an introduction with the phrase, "She's a 'good' girl..", while beaming moronically at their gold encrusted, often tattooed and pierced, (in)significant other, henceforth referred to as their 'thai-in-tow'; without a doubt I'd have a sizeable sum now.

My observations both in and out of Bangkok of foreigners and their 'thai-in-tow', have shown me at least, that the number of foreigners marrying hi-so, medium-so thai girls is clearly in the minority and the "good girl" theory just doesn't bear up under close scrutiny. I have observed too many foreigners throughout the glorious "Land 'O Thais", who seem to pick the poorest, least educated, most splayed toed girls (with a skin tone I will not mention here). They are the proverbial 'farmer's daughters', (of which; in this country, there is no shortage).

While beauty is most certainly in the eye of the beholder; a person speaking even "two-word tourist thai" would quickly find out what the thais think about the mystifying foreign predilection and/or attraction to females that thais almost universally find unattractive or downright ugly.

So much for cutting edge demographic research.

OP again: Some very interesting results so far. More than half of the TV members are with professional Thais. Only a very brave and honest 16% have made an honest woman out of a once fallen one.

A few things to clarify. I, like many who have a Thai loved one, have accepted that some people may make jokes, point fingers and snigger. The people who know us and most of the people we come into contact with don’t think like that.

I was just interested in whether there was much truth behind the myth. All over Europe there are all sorts of stereotypes: “The Germans are boring”, the “Belgians are stupid”, the “French are sexy”…I found little evidence for these myths on my travels around Europe.

From the cutting edge research on this poll so far, there is little evidence that Thais are all either construction workers, hookers or maids…however I have met quite a few that are durian farmers and rubber tappers…:-)

I believe many will have dabbled into the SW category but not have claimed it on this survey (Had you read the poll on how many University students had been paid for it and how many currently pay for school by doing so...?) I was surprised at the results.

This poll may be skewed because how many men would "best describe" their mate as..SW (versus naming former jobs, not seeing them as SW currently)? I could have easily said Beautician.

I suppose I could have snagged a highly educated professional but I rather like it this way. She is very grateful I'm not a boozer and abuser; more like the movie, Pretty Woman (sans limo). Where i come from the polite term for a sex worker is "professional girl" so many of you voted in that category I see. The poll should have been on what your partner was when you met instead of what they are now. Most of the former sex workers married to people I know are "stay at home" moms now with a few sidelines not the least of which is amateur gamblers.
