you first

The best way to do this would be in such a manner as to actually notify the shops doing this that they have been placed on some sort of a "blacklist" by Farangs...like their shop name and address ends up on a website that is promoted on websites such as this and other Thailand travel sites... kind of like the better business bureau we have here in the states.

While they may not care some may, and if you can straighten a few out than you've accomplished something.

It would be virtually impossible for me to do this on my own, and especially with my lack of the Thai Language to contact them. Hopefully that "the press" has more clout than one lonely farang. :o

you definitely sound lonely.

edit:

If this post like the many others started was left alone by the 'I love Thai no matter what brigade' and moderated to remove the non-related dribble, then there would be once and FOR ALL a list of venues that are private busineses that practice double pricing based on race IN THAILAND. None of these posters yet have to answer a simple question.

- What do you say to your children when they ask why you get charged more than Mum?.. d you simply roll over with the TiT excuse. Great example for the kids to follow.

There is no need to go into lengthy discussion about what is a Farang or Falang.

There is no need to quote examples from other countries, let the forums in those countries deal with them, customers certainly do. This is about Thailand where WE live.

Well I think there is because it highlights how terribly one eyed the winging and moaning about thailand is.

I personally think they should charge us alot more.

Why not since Daddy pays the bills!!

Maybe they should also charge a foreigners tax on top of dual pricing. Plus a monthly fee for being in the country

Just to note, the Sampran Elephant Grounds does recognize a Thai Driver's licence, or my Thai university ID. Pay Thai price every time. Maybe you don't have one of those, or maybe they just don't like you :o

You can download United Nations Official Elephant Inspectors Badges on the internet too...print on some glossy paper, you'll be fine.

I don't consider myself a thailand lover, but apart for the national park thing I haven't found any.

There's a 10x difference in income between the average thai and the average tourist, so it does not shock me all that much.

What's surprising is that they don't seem to overcharge in the health care sector, which maybe they should.

Explanation: Medical tourism is a good thing, but when it gets to the point that it leaves only the second grade medical practitioners to attend the country's population, it has to be regulated a bit. Plus what public health care plan couldn't use some extra money?

It was 2-3 years ago, so maybe things have changed since, there was a big OTOP shop on the highway from Pattaya, where a lot of coach full of foreigners used to stop. In big digits products show the price for foreigners, in small for thai, exactly half price !

If you want things to change, don't waste your time writing to officials, newspapers, ... in Thailand, write to your local newspaper back home. It's summertime, nothing much happend, they may enjoy a good story

well know international company with a regional HQ in central Bangkok who won't promote Thai's as high as foreigners nor pay them the same amount for the same position, despite their skills. They'd rather fly in the useless plonkers on an expat package with all the bells and whistles rather than break with tradition and give a local an internationally competitive salary - which would still be an advantage. Wouldn't want to create a precedence you see.....

Can I mention them? Afterall, if we are on about dual pricing then salary is simply the price of labour.

This old chestnut again...???

Good grief. There are sooooo many excuses for not doing anything / going anywhere, aren't there?

Maybe they should also charge a foreigners tax on top of dual pricing. Plus a monthly fee for being in the country

Maybe this is what you are referring to, but following the recent changes to the WP laws they are about to slap a tax on being foreign and having a job in Thailand ...

And next time he will ask for at least 100 Baht. Its people like you that encourage Thais to charge us more...

Most, if not all Thai hotels and agencies advertised aon the net would not make booking for Thai nationals.

I tried 10+ hotels October last year for 2 weeks for my wife and daughter.

They would start doing it, say, price 1400B per day, then - ohh - Thai nationals? Price 2100 B per day.

Some said - no way I can book Thais no matter the price - the service is only for foreigners.

For discriminating against their own nationals the entire Pattaya and Hua Hin hotel industry deserves to be on that list of shame!!!!

The Viengtai Hotel near Khao Sarn Road. My t/g rang and got the rates: Thai people 1200 baht, non Thai 2200 baht. Big difference

Faranglandoz :o

What a surprise that the income-disparity gap of this country which we all take advantage of (and is the actual reason any one of us is here in the first place) is also reflected in some of the prices we pay. Boo-hoo.

I don’t think this has got anything to do with being a Farnago. I remember the first time I encountered the dual pricing system (at some old temple or other) getting all stroppy and interrogating the luckless ticket seller: “So would I have to pay the higher price if I were Chinese, Vietnamese, Myanmarian…and what if I were Albanian, Kazakhstanian, Trinidadian and Tobogan…” “Chai” she said, cheerfully, to each one in turn.

So I conclude that the Thai tax payers support these places so deserve a reduction. I pay my tax in Singapore which is billions of THB cheaper than in LOS. So do I care about paying a few extra baht at temples? Nah, not so much.

However it will be interesting to see what happens when the second generation Eurasians (who may look more Honky than they do Mongoloid but never the less are Thai Nationals) start trying to muscle their way into temples at the Thai price.
