Transfer Of Imm Stamp From Old To New Pp.

Featured Replies

I have an extension of permission to say stamp in my visa valid until 26th August issued from Suan Phlu (Bkk). I have just ordered a replacement UK passport and it will be ready in two weeks. I'll get the old passport returned to me, too. I'll be in another province by then, 900km from Bkk, so the passports are being sent to me there. Is there any reason why going to the local imm office in my new province in order to get the stamp transferred to my new passport should be a problem? And it's a free process, right?

Transfering the entry stamp to a new passport is a free service.

It is generally best to ask the local office where you live,

but since the system is computerised I see no reason why another office

cannot handle it for you.

Since you mention a "new province" I assume you have moved house?

So it will be a good idea to make yourself known at the new office.

You should be reporting your new address to them anyway.

Yes, that's right. It's a permanent move. The imm office have seen me several times before over the years, and have always been very gracious and accommodating. I was just unsure whether I was obliged to return to Bkk and wait for two hours, or could just bobble along to the local done-in-five-minutes-with-a-smile imm office. Cheers.

As with most things related to Immigration, it is likely discretionary whether a particular office wants to take care of you are ship you somewhere else.

But, what would be the harm in going to the local office first? The worst they can tell is "bpai loei".

If someone here tells you that you have to go to BKK, would you then just get in the car and go, without checking the local?

I know, forewarned is fore-armed.

Regardless of what you learn here, go to the local office. Do not *ask* if they can do it...just go in as if they *can* do it and proceed from there.

Yes indeedy. I am pretty sure all will be well, but I was hopeful of somebody posting their own positive experience in this matter...
