Is There Any Market For Professional, High End Sat, Gre, Gmat, Etc. Tutoring In Chiang Mai?

Featured Replies

Does anyone think there would be a market for high end test preparation tutoring in Chiang Mai? Specifically for SAT (so international school students), and GRE and GMAT (so university and working people planning to get a masters, MBA, or doctorate abroad)? Rates would have to be upwards of 1200/hr, likely 1500-2000, which I know is high for CM...

Is there something which demonstrates that those rates might be justified?

I know of one local language center that charges students 550 per hour for IELTS and SAT prep, one on one. Welcome to Chiang Mai.

Very unlikely at the rate - it is more than a week's minimum wage!

One hour per day, five days per week at 2,000 Baht per hour is 40,000 Baht per month. At 1,500 baht per hour it is 30,000 Baht per month. Very very hard to find anyone willing to pay that much in Chiang Mai. Maybe impossible.

Recent reports on testing at many levels in Thailand, indicate that the student involvement in studies may be lower than their purchase of the test itself. On a serious note the International Schools offer classes for the students which prepare them to take these tests. Good luck on your venture.

Most of my friends hardly make 6.5 for IELTS. TOEFL is even harder. So forget the GMAT, SAT, GRE!!! they are not interested in learning or taking these tests as they are not necessary for them. I'm talking about BKK, the chance is even smaller in CM.

PS. Thai students who take GRE are considered genius
