Could Use Some Advice Concerning Visa Options

Featured Replies

I'm an American, 35 years old, who traveled to Thailand on a Non-Immigrant class B visa, multiple entry. I arrived Sept. 2007. During my stay here I got married to a Thai national and we are expecting a child in September. We have applied for an immigrant visa for her to the US but that can take a while to process. The problem is my visa expired July 16th, 2008, I'm still legally in the country until August 21st. I was planning a visa run, but then that will only extend my stay here for three months. I'd like to stay for at least another six months.

I've looked over the options I have: try to obtain a marriage visa, get a tourist visa from a consulate in a neighboring country, and just doing the visa run for three months. I might have missed a few as well. I'd like some advice on what I should do.

I realize I should have either renewed or applied for a marriage visa before my visa expired, but I didn't think I would be here for this length of time. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

1. Obtain a 60 day extension of stay under provision 7.23 of Police Order 606/2006. Cost is 1,900 baht.

1. Application form TM.7

2. Copy of applicant’s passport

3. Copy of census registration Home Register (blue book)

4. Copy of the Thai national’s ID Card

5. Copy of marriage certificate

2. Obtain a two entry tourist visa from Vientiane which should cover the remaining time. Or obtain a single entry and use 30 day visa exempt entries. Or obtain 90 day non immigrant O visa. Or various combination's.

That makes me feel better about my situation. Should I just bring the required documents, (TM7, passport, etc.), to immigration in Bangkok then? Or do I need to leave the country and do this at a consulate? Since I was married in Thailand do I need any of the forms to be translated like I did when we got married?

Thanks again for the help.

You do the extension of stay at Immigration inside Thailand and original/copy Thai is fine.

I got a 60 day extension to my original visa which expires in October. I'm planning to leave Thailand and get a 90 day non immigrant O visa, either going to Singapore or Kuala Lumpur to get the visa. I was wondering which of the two has the more amiable embassies/consulates or if I should plan my trip to another country. Also is there an income requirement for the 90 day visa?

My daughter was born Sept. 8, by the way. I only mention it cause I'm a proud father now. :o

Thanks for the help!
