BTW: if you are wondering why I say that Boater, and you all, its because they have no clue what they are doing especially with regard to tax implications...but, before I back up what I say...wait, are they a sponsor of our gracious host here...like tacobelt "legal advisors"? If you want truly compentent legal counsel go to BKK to one of the truly reputable firms.

Hi. I checked their website and it did look professional enough and alot of info on there. I just guess that charges will be very high, I will give them a call and seeanyhow . HighDiver , have you used a legal firm in Koh Samui, does not have to be a westerner per se , but a competent local would be fine to check over. That is if such a thing exists, I have pretty much got a good idea of my contracts but want them executed and translated, plus the legal advise etc... AI. i have used over the years many lawyers each with a different Field of specialization. I don't really understand from your post what it is you are looking for but as a guide line always ask the lawyer if he has specialization regarding what you need. I checked their website and couldn't find any Thai lawyer on it. How can you expect that a falang with an American degree can give you decent advice about Thai law - none of them seems to speaks Thai, so they can not even read a Thai lawbook ! Also, it seems they are not registered as Thai lawyers (I believe a falang can not anyway), so if you have to go to court, they will have to hire a Thai anyway. My advise to the OP is to ask advise to Thai businessmen you know (or eventually a post on a Thai forum) Thai go to court too, and probably will know a decent lawyer, but be prepared you will have to go to BKK with a translator. Rooo
Marcus, You are correct, they can NOT practice Thai law, but they can employ Thai lawyers . I think the channels of communication would be a lot clearer using English speaking go between so to speak.A lot of problems with using local lawyers & I stress not all , is the miscommunication, mistranslation of directives or opinions. I think the channels of communication would be a lot clearer using English speaking go between so to speak.A lot of problems with using local lawyers & I stress not all , is the miscommunication, mistranslation of directives or opinions. Must say I agree, the foreign conencted law firms seem fine in the communciation part but they have to use a thai lawyer and one would hope then there is less communciation problems, but you pay through the nose for these services. They understand you fine maybe but have then the job to get it across to the thai lawyer. From my experience the local ones in samui talk in general a load of rubbish and charge also stupid fees for lousy work. I have had a case where after agreed fees , the lawyer held the documents until he got a brown envelope for what he said was extra charges. Pretty disgusting but there you go, as no one was involved to be paid additional... Recently I contacted Lix Luxen and found their service good, but not possible to draw up contracts in English and ask them to translate which is disappointing. I would also be keen on any recommendations for lawyers

Hi Highdiver Thanks much, It is connected to do with construction contracts which i guess would be finalised in English with my involvement and then need them to be translated and checked to ensure enforceable under Thai Law. Along of course with legal advise from the Thai Lawyer on what to add to the contracts etc. Thats basically for starters, lookin at a little project in Samui and Krabi. Just to make it a little clearer Thanks

Devil
I like BRS Located North Chaweng, Blumenthal Richter Sumet, they also have a office in Bangkok. Talk to their Thai Lawyer Khun Sornchai, he followed up everything he said he would and on time! (amazing) I was surprised for a flashy office at the reasonable prices for (condo sales agreement, Due Diligence etc)
Bluebell
Crashaws - Never !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to be honest if i said my true mind i would risk being banned from TV......... Have to disagree Boater. Have used Crawshaws two or three times over the last couple of years and found them to be professional, thorough and with reasonable fees. As High Diver says it all depends on what you need a lawyer for. Crawshaws will refer you to Bangkok lawyers if you need a specialist.
