When Will Tesco Lotus In Loei?

Featured Replies

Somepeople tell me never, others tell me soon. It seems that nobody really knows if tesco will open. The farang food in Loei is bad. All the restaurants serving farang food are of very low quality, there's also only 3 of them. It would be great if there's a tesco there so I could buy the farang food that I need to cook at home.

All the info I have heard is it will not open anytime soon. Same story for over a year. Do not hold your breath. I agree western food is hard to find.

This may not be any consolation. However, a few months back my wife and I stayed at the Amari Loei Palace Hotel.

We ate at the in-house restaurant a few times, the Western food was good and reasonably priced for an Amari Hotel. What surprised me was that the farang food was congruent in price to what we are used to in Udon, at our farang eateries. For example, I had a big burger, topped with bacon, cheese and a fried egg served on a good bun, included fries (chips), 140 baht. Also pizzas, pastas, and many other items. Stop by and check it out.

My only other suggestion would be to buy a large ice chest and make more frequent trips to Udon or Nong Khai.

There must be plans for a large supermarket chain to expand to Loei!!! It's wide open for a big name to come in and offer more services to Thais and farangs in the area.

As for the restaurants that sell farang food, a very poor standard! The Loei palace restaurant is the only one whose food I can eat. The German owned restaurant(baan thai) has bad food, very small portions and EXPENSIVE!

I emailed Tesco Lotus more than a year ago and they replied that they couldn't talk about it because it was in litigation. I sent them another email the other day and only received an automated email that they had received the message. Other than that, NO answer at all. The grand opening was planned for March two years ago. Two years and five months ago. Loei is content to feed the local merchants and the local merchants do their best to stop any competition from coming in. Tesco Lotus made a serious mistake. Had they built the store south of the city near all the new car dealerships they would be doing well.

Just because a Tesco comes to town does not mean you will get good Farang food. Both Mukdahan and Roi-et have a Tesco and neither store has any Farang Food worth while driving out of your way for. They sure arn't like the Tescos you see in Bangkok or Phuket or for that matter Khon Kaen. Issangeorge

Same with Top's here in Udon as compared to Top's in Pattaya.

Top's in Pattaya is a farang food delight, while Top's here in Udon is a dismal farang food failure, IMO.
