Time Police Branch

Seen on the Bangkok post website, Database section August 20th:

The Science and Technology Ministry established a new Time Police branch to catch and punish people who don't set their watches and computers to the exact correct time; fines will be at least 100,000 baht and up to 500,000 baht for anyone running fast or slow, starting with all telecoms companies, TV and radio stations, computer networks and Internet cafes; enforcement begins immediately, and the official time will be kept by, and copied from, the Hydrographic Department of the Royal Thai Navy, none of that fancy ''atomic clock'' nonsense.

I'm just wondering if for any obscur reason 1st of April is falling on August 20th this year.

I don't know but radio and tv stations in the U.S. face big fines if they don't identify their station every hour on the hour (like show or say the official broadcast name "K...." or "W....", etc. followed by location) but that's a bit different issue. It's being copied from the Royal Thai Navy but that doesn't mean they aren't consulting their own atomic clock or just aligning their clocks to Greenwich Mean Time (for minutes and seconds but of course they'll make the time zone change).
