Olympic Medals Tables

Recommended Posts

ANd the US will win the most medals in the next Olympics. So what. Olympic teams come to compete as individuals. I do think countries though should count their total medals and not just go by total golds. This seems to greatly diminsh the value of being the 2nd or 3rd best athlete in the world at your particular sport.

You guys can bash the US all you want, but it just sounds like sour grapes to me. The US wins more medals in more different sports than any country at the Games. Why? Because we are a diversified country with many different people pursuing many different lives. We take great pride in our athletes and our flag. I'm sorry if other countries can't understand this.

There is no honor in the Chinese team or its athletes. If your child has any athletic prowess, they will take them away at the ripe old age of 3-4. There they will train day and nite for the motherland only seeing their parents once a year at best. These athletes are grown like crops or cattle. All they do is specialize in the one sport they are "designed for."

Western athletes have a story. They go to school, have boyfriends/girlfriends, work jobs and struggle to be the best.

In reference to the Chinese gymnasts, they have 2 gymnasts from the last 2 Olypics who have since admitted they were too young to compete. So, there track record isn't the best. The evidence is pretty overwhelming against the 3 in question. Anyone who would lipsync for a 9 yr old girl who they thought was "less ugly" than the one actually singing, would not hesitate to cheat in athletics.

Western athletes have a story. They go to school, have boyfriends/girlfriends, work jobs and struggle to be the best. We all know that no American kids is forced to take part in beauty pageants or schooled to take part in auditions. Not to mention gymnastic camps for three year olds.

In reference to the Chinese gymnasts, they have 2 gymnasts from the last 2 Olypics who have since admitted they were too young to compete. So, there track record isn't the best. So lip svnch has never happened before? Deborah Kerr's singing voice in The King and I was provided by Mami Nixon who also provided the 'singing voice' for Natalie Wood, Aucrey Hepburn and others. How do you know that the Chinese girl was thought to be too ugly? Could it have been that they decided to use 2 singers - one for the looks and one for the voice?

You talk about the ages of the Chinese gymnasts - allegedly 'found out' because the Americans came second - would anything have been said if USA won? That's not a case of sour grapes but a whole truckload!

Should I mention Marion Jones? Made millions of dollars in appearence fees and endorsments through cheating. Need I mention other USA cheats?

See ya in 2012!! I'll look you for in the crowd. Let me guess, you'll be the one proudly wearing the Red, White and Blue!!!!!! Bring a pen and paper and we'll keep track of the medals together.

Western athletes have a story..

China has a history of more than 5,000 years. The US is still a baby in comparison, when the Europeans 'stole' the country from the original inhabitants. If you are an American your roots are from somewhere else; not America, unless your great great grandfathers were Indians.

Study a bit more joey and watch China in 2012 win most GOLD and most medals in London; the UK may become 2nd and US 3rd. :D

Work hard so that you're able to travel to London and buy yourself a ticket. Or may we be able to enjoy you, competing against the Chinese ? :o

Yes, in future Olympics China will win the most golds and the most medals.

It doesn't matter.

The tragedy of the Beijing Olympics is how the PRC dictatorship has been internally strengthened by their great propaganda show. Many world leaders came, and there was no criticism from them about the human rights situation in China. The PRC dictators will take this as tacit approval and support for their regime, and thus they have now solidified their power for decades to come. LaoPo is a businessman, and such people who care only about money, are supporters of the PRC dictators, because it is good for their business.

Lao Po, I'm amazed at your simple-minded views and utter naivete. Everyone (unless you're from the heart of Africa) is from "somewhere else" originally. That is the history of the world in a nutshell. Look how many times the map of Europe has changed over the last 1500 yrs. My young boy, you need to go and reread your history books. It's conquer or be conquered. But, if I use your simplistic formula, the US owns the moon as we were the first, and are the only people ever to set foot there. We were first, so it's ours, end of story. Maybe if you work hard selling enough selling fish n chips in 2012, you can work for an American on the Moon sometime.

As for the 2012 games, I don't think I will want to get caught up in any of the bombings that I"m pretty sure will be taking place on a daily basis. Too many terrorists there now for my taste. However, if history is any judge, and I'm sure that it is, the US team will probably lead the total medal count again. My poor fellow, China will not compete in as many events as they have in their home Olympics. Most countries make a major push to look as respestable as possible in their home games.

If there are any more questions you have about world socio-economic history, or the Olympic history, let me know. I'm always there to help out the the misinformed. Do let me know how the fish n chip thing works out? I can let the lads know of your desperate situation and make sure you start on the fryers.

Lao Po, Good luck my boy.

mr hippo, I'm not sure how to answer simple ignorance. What don't you understand?

The girl who was replaced on the opening nite was done so because she was "too ugly" according to the poliburo head who was overseeing the games. Those are his actual words. They wanted a "perfect" face to match the voice and in a country of 1.3 billion people, the 2 just couldn't be found on the same body. Thus the lip syncing.

The age of the gymnasts was abvious before the games evr began. Journalists from the US and the UK (ie, free, independent journalists seeking the truth wherever it takes them), found paper trails a mile long that totally disproves the ages in question. That is what happens in free, independent countries. The truth comes out.

Which leads me to Marion Jones. She was not caught by the IOC or the world community. She was found out, charged, found guilty and stripped of her medals. By who, you ask?? The free, independent gov't of the US. Why would we do that to our own athlete? What do we have to gain?? We did it because she cheated and we are a nation of laws. We police ourselves. Will China do he same? After all, they were the ones who "HELPED" create the cheating in the first place. There are no "free" journalists in China doing any investigating. That is how it works in Totalitarian societies.

ANything else mr hippo? If you can't unserstand this then maybe you should join your comrades in the rice fields this harvest. The Supreme Leader is not happy with you and you must make amends.

Lao Po, I'm not sure where you live in Thailand, but don't fret, I think I may be able to help you (though not personally!). It seems you keep asking men on this forum if they are gay. Quite strange, but I admire your persistence! However, I have an answer to your problem.

Next time your wife heads out on errands, you should head down to the Ladyboy Cabaret's and satisfy that craving which seems to constantly occupy your attention. They will be able to take care of you and that way you won't have to keep propositioning men on this forum. Let me know how it all works out for you.

Go USA 2012!!

Refresh my memory, how many bombings have taken place during an Olympic Games? I'll help you. It was not Munich 1972 - that was a hostage situation. It was Atlanta 1996 and the perpetrator was an American. If you think there will be daily bombing at London 2012 then you either have a deranged mind or inside information. Now to reply to your drivel in reply to my post.

So far, we have heard about the Chinese government lying, the Chinese people lying and the Chinese media lying and now, trying to justify your cause, "the poliburo head who was overseeing the games" is not lying. Can you provide a link to that?

She was not found out but confessed after years of lying about it. Who help Marion Jones to cheat in the first place?

"Jones's track future was jeopardized when she failed to show up for a random drug test (the letter notifying her of the test never reached her), and she was banned from the sport for four years. Her mother hired Johnnie Cochran, who successfully fought for her reinstatement. Marion Jones by Beth Rowen, Shmuel Ross, and Liz Olson That dates back to the 1990s!

ANything else mr hippo? If you can't unserstand this then maybe you should join your comrades in the rice fields this harvest. The Supreme Leader is not happy with you and you must make amends.

Now that is a very intelligent comment. Why resort to insults? Is it because you have weak debating skills?

:D We have been to Boyz Town/Pattaya and a Ladyboy Cabaret, my wife and I, but thank you for being so considerate to point to the possibility to visit one though.

24 very attractive boys ''Pole dancing'' and my Farang gayfriend and his Thai boyfriend who accompanied us told us that most of those chaps are in fact straight or bisexual married men.

Did you know that ? :o

Have a nice day and watch out, crossing the streets... :D

Excuse me for butting in here but remember the subway bombings not long ago? Or the reason we can't take liquid on planes anymore? Or the car bombs found outside the disco in London? There is every reason in the world to be concerned.

As has been pointed out, other countries missed out on the gold as well. The UK is one that comes to mind. As to why they didn't say anything beforehand, all I can think of is they don't have the resources to do background check on all Olympic athletes. The USA team is privately funded unlike China and many other countries who bankroll the teams with taxpayer money.

Lao Po, I'm glad you've been able to satisfy your curiosity. Good luck in your online pursuits as well. There is an old saying that goes, "If you knock on enough doors, one is bound to open for you." mr hippo, the facts have been presented. If you don't want to acknowledge them or are incapable of doing so, that is your problem. Why don't you try and find some of this information out for yourself? All the info you need is at your fingertips. Obviously Koheesti was able to find it with no problems.

You strike me as one of those people who makes up his mind no matter what the facts tell him. It doesn't help that you have a deep seeded hatred of the US. When you combine these two, it makes your statements come off as biasd and ignorant. Your hate/jealousy of the US makes you blind to reason and the facts. You want links to everything and then when they are presented you simply dismiss them. People like you cannot be reasoned with.

With your debating skills, you can surely find work anywhere in China.

If you plan to be in London in 2012, keep your head down. They will not have martial law in effect, and I'm afraid it will be ugly. By the way, have you been to London lately?

Where in that link does it say that Yang Peiyi was replaced because she was 'too ugly'? It did say "During the live rehearsal, the Politburo member said Miaoke's voice "must change," Chen said."

The GB team missed out on an Olympic gold medal for gymnastics? In the modern era, GB have won a total of 4 medals and none have been golds! Beth Tweedie (GB) did come 4th but that is hardly missing out on the gold, is it? So the USA team do not have the resources to check but when they missed out in the gold in a tie-break, they found the resources?

What facts have you presented me with? A voice was dubbed in a theatrical performance and 'suggestions' of underage athletes. A voice was dubbed - so what? It never happens in other countries, does it?

Surely an 'educated' person like yourself means 'deep-seated' and not 'deep seeded' deep-seated

Nowhere in any of my post suggested that I have either hatred or jealousy for anything - another figment of your imagination. Your last two moronic points are not worthy of comment.

mr hippo, I have had better debates with a brick wall. You simply don't want to see the truth. Not as I see the truth, but simply the truth. ANd if you disagree with a post, it is YOUR resposibility to go look for theTRUTH. All I hear from you is "show me", or "where is the link". If you don't believe someone, call their bluff and prove them wrong. Why should I do your homework for you? I Googled "China Lip Sync" and the very first story I came across was all it took.

The first sentence of the first paragrah reads, " A 7-year-old Chinese girl was not good-looking enough for the Olympics opening ceremony, so another little girl with a pixie smile lip-synched "Ode to the Motherland," a ceremony official said. It went on to say, "The audience will understand that it's in the national interest." I could provide the link, but I'm not going to. If you contest what I have just stated then prove me wrong. But, I hate to tell you that your a few weeks late on most of this news. I don't know where you live, but all of this is common knowledge in most of the English speaking world.

I think your main problem is that you aren't able to differentiate between facts and propaganda. Facts are able to be substantiated and backed up with evidence. This would be the case of the underage Chinese gymnasts. Independent reporters, working for unbiased, highly reputable newspapers, have found significant evidence of fraud and a cover-up. The girls ages were listed in print media as well as online accounts. These are state-run media out lets in the PRC. Three months before the Olympics, the girls ages magically change to a date which makes them eligible to compete. Those, sir, are facts. He Kexin was listed as 14 years old on May 26, 2008 in the Xinhua paper and now she is 16. That is a fact and that is fraud.

Now. The misguided theories you subscribe to are called propaganda. This is the kind of drivel that is pumped out daily for the masses in mostly Communist/Dictatorships. Mainly because there is no opposition and no alternative sources of media. You control the media, you control the information. China said that the girls passports prove their age is legitamate. But, who issues their passports? ANd as for the age discrepancies listed online and in the Chinese state run papers, according to them, it's simple. No ever called to confirm their ages. So it was just a simple misunderstanding. Oh, and I almost forgot. In a feeble attempt to cover up the age change, ALL online accounts were taken down after the changes. WOW!! What a coincidence!! China is a closed society. Nothing is done without express permission from the gov't. There isn't anyone to investigate anything. How many times do you think Chinese athletes are internally drug-tested? How bout zero. Why would they? They have no vested interest in doing so.

Instead of admitting your wrong, this is the place where you now ask for the links. What I find so shocking is that everything I just said is common knowledge. This was front page stuff 3 weeks ago. Open your eyes, or at the very least open Google!

Go USA 2012!!

"Why should I do your homework for you?" Am I sking you to? I'm am not a big fan of Wikipedia but if you go to their main page and click on the first link of 'Today's Featured Article' it will lead you to Walter de Coventre Now scroll down to Background and go to the second line and it says '...career cleric from the lower nobility.[1]' What do you think the [1] signifies? It is a not that says where the information comes from. Would you rather see '...career cleric from the lower nobility.[Oh why don't you google it}

"I could provide the link, but I'm not going to." You sound like a petulant 5 year old!

I seached 'China Lip Synch' and the first link was this LA Tmes article. I think you will find that paper pro America. You provide the yahoo link and it says 'It was not the first time an Olympics opening ceremony involved lip-synching.

At the 2006 Winter Games in Turin, Luciano Pavarotti's performance was prerecorded. The maestro who conducted the aria, Leone Magiera, said this year that the bitter cold made a live performance impossible for Pavarotti, who was in severe pain months before his cancer diagnosis. Pavarotti died in 2007 at age 71.' Now I wonder why this was not commented on at the time, could it be that it is not related to China?

"Journalists from the US and the UK (ie, free, independent journalists seeking the truth wherever it takes them), found paper trails a mile long that totally disproves the ages in question." Oh, did they? see TIMESONLINE. It was found by a hacker - a criminal - not a journalist!

You talk about 'propaganda', how many American lives have been lost because of American propaganda about weapons of mas destruction?

mr hippo, Almost everything you post now is laughable. I don't even know where to start.

1. Wickipedia is not accepted as a "source" by any learning institution in the US.

2. Not sure what that next jibberish is supposed to be?

3. So any news paper from AMerica is pro-AMerican? Really. Who blew the news on WMD? Who blew the news on Monica Lewinsky? etc, etc. Most news outlets in the US are liberal or conservative, but they sureas hel_l aren't pro-American. You either obviously aren't from the US, or you are severely misinformed? But, that's the great thing about living in a free, democratic society. News agencies act as a system of checks and balances. they keep the gov't honest and will report it when they aren't.

4. Yes, the Chinese blunder was SO OBVIOUS, it was found by multiple people. The New York Times, the AP, a reporter from the UK, and yes some hacker. So what? IT IS COMMON KNOWLEDGE. They lied and apparently you were the only one who believed them. I would strongly recommend in the future you not get your "news" from Wickipedia. Unless of course, you want the right news.

5. Ah yes, here comes that anti-American rhetoric you so love. It's OK to admit your jealous mr hippo. But, at least come clean.

6. How many lives have been saved by the war on terror?? Maybe even yours. You're welcome.

I will repeat "I'm am not a big fan of Wikipedia" - that was showing you how to reference. I only cited that to try an educate you but I failed.

You are believing your own propaganda - the information was found by a hacker and then passed onto multiple sources.

What anti-American rhetoric? I was commenting on American propaganda.

You ask "How many times do you think Chinese athletes are internally drug-tested?" As far as I am aware - the same nunber of times as any international athlete - you, of couse, 'know' different!.

How many American athletes take drugs and use lawyers to get off on 'technicalities'? If an athlete who has doped but uses a lawyer to get off on a technicality is being honest?

"Wickipedia is not accepted as a "source" by any learning institution in the US" It isn't and neither is Wikipedia! :o

OK, mr hippo, lets tally up the score cards shall we.

I proved you were wrong about the Chinese replacing a little girl to sing because she wasn't good looking enough for the powers that be in the PRC, and I proved you were wrong about the Chinese lying about the ages of its gymnasts and then trying to cover it up.

You corrected my spelling on two words.

Way to go mr hippo, keep up the good work. I'm sure your vocabulary teachers are very proud of you!

If the ages were known before the Games, why was nothing done about it? Why was nothing said until after the USA 'lost' the gold?

I stumbled across this while doing more link hunting for you. It's from July 27, almost two weeks before the Olympics started.

Are Chinese Gymnasts Too Young for Olympics?

Posted 7/27/2008 12:33 PM

BEIJING (AP) — Two female Chinese gymnasts, including a gold-medal favorite, might be too young to participate in the upcoming Beijing Olympics.Several online records and reports show He Kexin, the host nation's top competitor on uneven bars, and Jiang Yuyuan might not yet be 16, the minimum age for Olympic eligibility. Both were chosen for China's team last week.

On the Web site of the Chengdu Sports Bureau - Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan province in southwest China - a file dated January 2006 shows He Kexin as being born Jan. 1, 1994.

Most recently, a May 23 story in the China Daily newspaper, the official English-language paper of the Chinese government, had He's age as 14.

The newspaper story begins: "The 14-year old newcomer to the national team, who was recruited last year, has raised a lot of eyebrows recently after she broke two world records on the uneven bars in as many months."

You corrected my spelling on two words. It's not often that you are right but you're wrong again! You will find that it is far more than two mistakes - do you want me to correct them?

When did I ever say that the singer was not replaced because of her looks? I never!

When did I say that the Chinese did or did not lie about the ages? I never. You have taken the view that the Western media is right but are they? I am keeping an open mind on it until the result of the inquiry, aren't you?

...from the US and the UK (ie, free, independent journalists seeking the truth wherever it takes them), found paper trails a mile long that totally disproves the ages in question. That is what happens in free, independent countries.

Click on Reporter Arrested. I think you'll find that Denver is not in China! From the article

"Police on the scene refused to tell ABC lawyers the charges against the producer"

"Later, he is seen pushing Eslocker off the sidewalk into oncoming traffic, forcing him to the other side of the street."

"During the arrest, one of the officers can be heard saying to Eslocker, "You're lucky I didn't knock the f..k out of you." "

Police refusing to co-operate with defendent's lawyers, police brutality and threats of violence by police. It's getting worse than a police state!

Complete and utter paranoid rubbish! Should I advise my neighbours' daughter not to go to a university in the US because of all the campus shootings?

A handful of shootings out of thousands of universities & colleges in the 3rd largest country in the world (larger even than one continent) or a handful of targeted bombings & terror attacks in one city. Hmmm.

The GB team missed out on an Olympic gold medal for gymnastics? In the modern era, GB have won a total of 4 medals and none have been golds! Beth Tweedie (GB) did come 4th but that is hardly missing out on the gold, is it?

This one I'll admit being wrong about. I thought I read she missed out on a gold but instead she just missed out on a medal. See, it's not hard to admit being wrong. You should try it sometime. You sure have had plenty of opportunities here.

So the USA team do not have the resources to check but when they missed out in the gold in a tie-break, they found the resources?

I just posted the link showing it was known beforehand. Cheating #$%!$% commies. :o

I agree koheesti, but this guy has got his buried in ignorance. In his own post, he links "see TIMESONLINE" and in there they talk about how the US raised serious doubts about their ages long before the games started. He must not read his own links, because it proves our point and disproves his.

That's OK, whenever you prove him wrong he always comes back with something derogitory about the US or corrects my spelling. Which will it be this time...the suspense is killing me!
