Rosana says government worsens situation with tough police actions

Senator Rosana Tositrakul Sunday said the government has worsened the situation by having police take tough actions against the protesters Friday by assaulting them and demolishing their rally facilities.

She said the government also made the situation worse by raising treason charges against the protesters. She said such a tough charge would drive more people to come out to join the rallies.

Rosana said the government would have to change its behaviors to try to tackle the crisis.

Dear all,

Those of you that say the protesters are being paid to protest, please come up with clear evidence, or shut up.

I know at least ten people, that go to the protest area's every night and they go there because they believe it can help to make Thailand a beter place.

If you disagree with the protest, it means you support corruption?

Yes think about it, all those arguments that Samak is the elected leader, bla bla bla, only shows you are very disinformed or stubborn and reluctant to admitt you where wrong

and are afraid to loose face.

Fact's are that Thaksin stole Billions of Bath from the taxpayers.

His wife is now a convicted criminal.

They chose to escape to the UK so they cannot face charges.

Samak told the press that he is a proxy for Thaksin.

Samak and his party friends want to change the constitution, to favor those that did wrong and have Thaksin cleared of all wrongdoings.

And many more.

I tell you, most of my Thai friends are really fed up with this and want a transparant and honest government that really helps the country move forward.

The question is: Who will be the best person to lead Thailand, after Samak and his criminal friends will leave the political stage.

Ditto.

Didn't notice too much going wrong with the military govt anyways.

Under thaksin you didn't know if you were going to go out at night and be forced to have a piss-test, get shot in the crossfire of a violent drug war, if you were going to make it to the gas station when it's 9:30 and you're almost empty and it's heavy traffic, etc.

Truth is that Thaksin was good with some things but his power went to his head. He started making laws left and right at the same time as hoarding money at every chance even though he was a multimillionaire. He was a liar, he bluntly lied to the public and press all the time. He sued everyone who criticized him.

Marcos of Thailand.

And yes, I've been personally given the offer from my friends who joined the mob, it's better than the average 200 baht per day pay, who wouldnt want to join?

Anyone wishing to not jeopardize their life and puts themselves on the front line of a civil battle. This isn't "voting" in a booth, it's trench warfare.

Well yes, that can be a comparison with the military who are paying their officers.

However, I always recall that our PAD leaders had stated that those people came with only their sincere heart and demands 'only' for the country to be out of Thaksin's grip.

I'm sure there'll be less than 50 percent of the present protesters if they really protest with only their 'sincerity' but without getting paid.

More people would be busy working to support their families than shouting 'Samak Get Out!!' 24/7.

This should be an easy thing to test. With the cost to the country and risk of injury to the demonstrators, the government should authorize the payment of 1000 baht to anyone willing to get on the bus and depart. 1000 baht per person should be a bargan to the country and I think many might go along with it.

Which just goes to show, yet again, how ridiculously small a grasp you have of the strength of feeling and passion for change the Thais at the PAD rally have. You really have no idea, do you. None. You live in this country, how long? And still equate your values, or what you consider to be the values of the ordinary Thai, from what you and your mates talk over a few beer Changs. Ignorant in the extreme.

Isnt it ironic that while its illegal to pay people to vote a certain way it seems perfectly acceptable for an anarchist movement to pay protesters to lay siege to a country in an effort to bring down an elected government.

Demonstrations are legal and democratic means of expression. The protestors are expressing their political views which is a right (free speech) protected by the constitution. There's nothing un-democratic about applying political pressure for Samak to step down. It's not like they are storming parliament with assault rifles.

You are correct but it does not include blocking roads for days on end, taking over a TV station, buildings and etc. that PAD has been doing.

Demonstrations are only legal when announced to authorities in advance and when held in the designated areas agreed upon with the Police. All other demonstrations disturbing the public peace are pr. definition illegal, as are incitement to disturb the peace, destroy public and private property, disturb the function of government, and last but not least trying to overthrow an (with some flaws, but never the less) democratic elected Government with illegal means (force/violence).

We are witnessing the swan song of the ever more desperate PAD leadership who this time seriously overplayed their hand, no matter what happens the courts are not likely to change their rulings and the PAD leaders will go to jail for a long time and they know it, therefore the increasingly more desperate and stupid measures taken like, blocking airports and union leaders forcing their members to report in sick leave, a lot of normal Thais will pay a, for some heavy price, having been sucked in by the coward PAD leaders hiding behind them, while playing them to the tune of the lowest of human instincts, nationalistic rantings mixed with popular entertainment. The PAD leaders days on the lawn of government house will be their last days in freedom.

The wish full thinking postings here on TV that the Government will fall is just that, and is getting ever more desperate to, even if Samak goes the PPP government will stay there is no chance that they will give in to a relatively small mob of fanatical protesters. Credit must be given to all official branches of Thai authorities staying calm in the face of unheard of provocation. Instead of the constant moaning about alleged excessive force by the Thai Police, maybe some posters here on TV should try to imagine a mob trying to storm their own country's Government buildings, in our advanced democracy's there would be scores of dead and wounded.

I hope it all will end soon and relatively peaceful, the now year long constant wailing of these fanatics is getting tedious to the extreme.

Samak asks 30 senators: Will you stand naked in Parliament?

Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej severely criticised 30 senators for siding with the anti-government protesters.

He asked them whether they would show their "true colours" during a special parliamentary debate Sunday afternoon.

"Will you stand naked in front of the people in Parliament this afternoon?" Samak asked during his Talk Samak Style programme on NBT.

He said the senators should have been ashamed of themselves for visiting the protesters at the Government House.

Something really bothers me. A number of people here question the intelligence of Mr. Samak.

If he is so stupid and you are so smart, why is he Thailand PM and you are nobody ?

Please explain

Well for one thing he IS Thai...

He was a compromise candidate pulled from retirement

as a figure head, who hopefully would distract people from

the real power game played in the background.

It may not have played out as hoped.

He is an old school political grappler, his strong point,

and has a certain appeal to those in the country side

used to identifying with tough characters being those in power.

He also has a certain bulldog pigheadness or bloody mindedness,

he doesn't back down easily. A definite plus in Dr. T's calculation.

So while he blusters, things happen behind the scenes.

Like Kuhn Newin off to London, with or without his bags,

for a consult. While his clan mate controls a talkfest back here.

Kuhn Samak is directly from the old school Bangkok politics,

and seems under-prepared for the modern game on a national level.

But he is not stupid, just wrong time, wrong place, to last long.

Police prevent face-off between DAAD, PAD

BangkokPost.com) - The Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, Pol Gen Kowit Wattana, ordered police forces to keep a close watch on the movements of the Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship (DAAD) and the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) to prevent supporters from both sides from clashing, particularly after the special joint session of both the Lower and Upper Houses of Parliament on Sunday.

Police officials also beefed up security at state offices in different provinces to prevent demonstrators from breaking in and causing unrest.

Pol Gen Kowit on Sunday inspected the weapons and narcotics seized by the police from the PAD followers near Makkhawan Rangsan Bridge and at the state-run National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (NBT) station. The group attempted to seize NBT station on August 26.

I did a search on her. In an article I found dated March 06 it was stated that she was a core member of PAD.

found that in Bangkok post:

Protesters to leave Government House

(BangkokPost.com) - People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) leader Chamlong Srimuang, ordered demonstrators to leave the main building at Government House on Sunday, after widespread criticism and publicity that the grounds had become an unsanitry eyesore.

Maj-Gen Chamlong said he feared that "other ill-intentioned people" might set fire to the building and blame the PAD. He told the media that people who refuse to leave the building are not PAD followers.

The core leader of the anti-government group asked demonstrators to listen only to senior PAD leaders such as himself, and not to believe rumours that police were about to attack to disperse them.

Another PAD activist Pibhop Dhongchai said the anti-government group have agreed that core member Somsak Kosaikul will be the sole person who can command their supporters to rally in different locations.

Concerning the charges of insurrection imposed against nine key members of the PAD by the Criminal Court, Mr Pibhop insisted they will not yield and they can sacrifice themselves for their supporters. He also asked them to continue demonstrating peacefully.

He asked the PAD followers to stop working until the government becomes paralysed.

Granted that nobody wants to see a military massacre of protesters. However that does not exclude the use of non-lethal reasonable force (as stated above and as commonly used in more advanced western democracies) to control illegal mobs breaking the law.
