None of these countries have any way of finding out if you have a criminal record unless you provide them with the information with a police report or by answering private questions. If you were to neglect admitting it on your entry card (many countries don't even ask) you would be processed like any other citizen of whatever country you come from.

There is no big computer network with everyone in the world's permanant record on it at this point in time, but thanks to terrorism, it looks like Big Brother is just around the corner! :o

In some countries, such as Austrralia, criminal records are voided after a reasonable amount of time has passed. I think that it is 5-10 years, so even if you murdered a bunch of people, went to prison and paid your debt to society, you would not be required to claim a criminal record and there would be no way to find out if you had one. :o

I dont think they are that easy..as far as I know you can apply to have minor convictions removed after 10 years in most states but it is not automatic. Also if you come from outside to Australia you are supposed to declare all convictions....and they can check....and you may or may not be admitted depending on an assesmeent of the threat you pose Australia.

So if the OP is to ignore the advise, what advise do you offer in the place of that which he is to ignore??

Getting back to your Q.

As you want less than 30 days, (and I guess you are coming from a European/Antipodean country or America) you don't need a Visa you get entry clearnace on arrival> I have never been asked for any such information (actually never been asked anything) at the customs desk - they check your passport and landing card and stamp you in. No worries.

Criminal records are capable of being checked by Australian authorities in your home country when visa applications are lodged.

Murder would never be expunged from a criminal record in Oz (except maybe for a crime committed by a juvenile).

Criminal records are capable of being checked by Australian authorities in your home country when visa applications are lodged.

According to a close friend who works in The Australian Embassy in Bangkok, if you get an automatic "electric" visa in advance and mark no on your entry form when entering the country for felony convictions, there is no way to be detected unless you are currently wanted for a serious crime.

If you apply from your home country by going to the Aussie Embassy and filling out a regular visa form, a suspicious officer might be able to get someone at the police station to to do a check for him, but the Aussies don't have access to American criminal records and vice versa. :o
