September 4, 200817 yr Just 3 weeks to the two-yearly event and there's sure to be some exciting launches. My wish list is as follows:- Canon 5D MK11 - 48 bit - 21 Megapixels - DUST FREE SENSOR - weather sealed - pop-up flash Sigma DP2 - mini zoom range (say 24-70 equivalent) - 15 megapixels - noise free - quick action/response Leica M9 - 15 megapixels - All the current noise and colour problems resolved On all of the above I'd also like a nice little flip-up shade viewer over the LCD so I can see what I've shot in the glaring sun! Oh, and if someone could launch a nice and affordable 645 digital medium format camera of (say) 22 megapixels............ ooooh! What would you like to see?
September 4, 200817 yr I'd go with your list, except I would keep the DP2 as a prime and the pixel count low, anything to retain the current image quality.
September 4, 200817 yr 1. a pocketable ixxus type of camera with a 20mm wide angle lens. 2. a simple digital equivalent of the nikon fm2 , autofocus but everything else manual and pretty much free of all distracting bells and whistles.
September 5, 200817 yr I am eagerly awaiting the Canon. I saw a little clip on YouTube by a Norwegian (?) bird photographer and it looks awesome (I am into bird photography, too). Aren't there a number of third-party manufacturers that make LCD screens? The camera producers never seem to think of us poor sods that live in the tropics, trying to see what you shot on the LCD really is a nightmare. Any point-and-shoot handles it better
September 5, 200817 yr Author Friday, 5 September 2008New 5D to eclipse competition? Canon has just added a mysterious teaser to its US website. The page shows a silhouette of a camera with the words 'Destined Evolution.' Maybe it will be updated to include more detail in the future, we don't know. It's almost as if the company is building up to the launch of a camera to replace one of its older models. We have no specific information but it doesn't require any profound market insight to predict an EOS 5D replacement is coming. (09:35 GMT) http://www.dpreview.com/ Wish number one en-route!
September 5, 200817 yr Finally.... I've been waiting for it since the rumor started almost a year ago around Nov. 2007. I'm still not too optimistic it really is a 5D Mk2 untill I see it with my own eyes though... (it could be a surprise 3D or 7D). Not that I think I'm going to buy it too soon as I have my money tied up for another shopping now... Sigma DP2 - mini zoom range (say 24-70 equivalent) - 15 megapixels - noise free - quick action/responseLeica M9 - 15 megapixels - All the current noise and colour problems resolved Too soon for them.
September 5, 200817 yr I am wishing for a new generation of Cameras, compact as well DSLR, with les Megapixels, but better IQ and low Noise.
September 7, 200817 yr A new pro Canon Mark 4 (?) which actually had no focusing issues Full frame. Live view focusing. High ISO sensitivity. Video. Basically a souped-up Nikon D3 but Canon And a G10. RAZZ Edited September 7, 200817 yr by RAZZELL
September 15, 200817 yr Canon 5D MK11 - 48 bit - 21 Megapixels - DUST FREE SENSOR - weather sealed - pop-up flash There's been a rumor about EOS 3D and 7D as well. (7D poster allegedly taken at Fotofile) A digital camera magazine in Japan appears to be advertising its next issue which apparently includes contents specifically pertaining to next generation EOS 5D thougn. Leica M9 - 15 megapixels - All the current noise and colour problems resolved And Leica seems to have announced the release of upgraded M8, called M8.2. But I have a link only in Japanese and it's not on DPReview yet. http://dc.watch.impress.co.jp/cda/parts/im...6-9210-2-1.html Edited September 15, 200817 yr by Nordlys

September 16, 200817 yr DPReview Zeiss lenses for Canon EF mounthttp://www.dpreview.com/ Now that will be interesting.
September 16, 200817 yr Author DPReview Zeiss lenses for Canon EF mounthttp://www.dpreview.com/ Now that will be interesting. And, no doubt, expensive!
September 16, 200817 yr DPReview Zeiss lenses for Canon EF mounthttp://www.dpreview.com/ Now that will be interesting. Finally the Ziess lens for EF mount! I'd be more interested if it were AF. Don't really fancy using MF lenses on AF camera with focusing screen designed for AF, especially with such fast lenses.
September 16, 200817 yr I hope for further falling prices of Mamiya RB, Fuji GX 680 and LF gear. For me it is back to basics and film. There are incredible medium and large format deals to be had at a fraction of the prices of plastic DSLRs.
September 17, 200817 yr The new 5D may answer some of the wishes! http://www.dpreview.com/news/0809/08091705canon_5dmarkII.asp
September 17, 200817 yr Author The new 5D may answer some of the wishes!http://www.dpreview.com/news/0809/08091705canon_5dmarkII.asp Good to see that Canon read this section! Weather sealed, 21 megapixels, live view - brilliant. And not such a price hike from the "old" model. Just hope the sensor cleaning thingy works Where does this leave the current EOS 1DS MK111? Assuming you can live without 10 fps shooting speed, and well known focusing problems (!), even having laid out for the optional power pack you're acquiring an equivalent unit for less than 1/2 the price, and you get a free HD camcorder built in! 39 megapixel MK111? Edited September 17, 200817 yr by The Vulcan
September 17, 200817 yr I don't think the 1Ds can manage 10fps, you need the 1D for that. Indeed, if I had the money for a 1Ds I would buy a 5D and some nice lenses to go with it.

Quite right - I stand corrected. Even more of a divide then? The new flagship (MK IV?) must have some hel_l of a spec to outshine the 5D MK11. (And sympathies go out to all current MK 111 owners who lashed out 250k baht)
September 17, 200817 yr Nothing beyond what was predicted and frankly I'm not too thrilled and found no urgent need to upgrade to Mk2 as it didn't come with eye control feature. However, it's a big improvement that it now seems to have permanent display of ISO setting on the status panel LCD and viewfinder, which with the predecessor model it required pressing ISO setting button to see what the current ISO setting is. Weather-proof and self-sensor cleaning are definitely plus, but everything else aren't essential to me to warrant expensive upgrade. I'll probably keep my 5D even if I decide later that I'd get a Mk2 (I probably will, but perhaps in about two years time). BTW I suppose it doesn't accept 5D's BG-E4 battery grip? September 17, 200817 yr Author The biggest "bummer" to me is Canon have announced an updated and seemingly superior version of my favourite lens, the 24mm L f1.4 and I only bought the "old" model 2 weeks ago!

The 5D look's an interesting camera. Only had a quick look at the specs...Has it got auto ISO expansion? Six months after a "Mark 4" comes out i'll be straight down the shops to buy a couple (by which time they should have ironed out all the issues ) I nearly got my wishes...The G10 look's good too RAZZ Edited September 17, 200817 yr by RAZZELL

September 21, 200817 yr Author Ref New 5D Mark 11 I must say the "straight out of the camera" jpegs on the DPReview site are impressive bearing in mind they have yet to acquire adjusting software. BUT, if you look closely there they are again - dust marks on the sensor! I'm hoping this is actually lens dust because I'm sick of sensor cleaning. We'll see I guess. Needs new power grip/charger/batteries - compliant corrective software - TOP NOTCH lenses only to squeeze the detail out - a bloody high end computer with bags of space to handle the files etc etc. Still, at least the GF knows what I want in my Xmas stocking this year?
