Visa Run Or Tourist Visa?

Featured Replies

I am wondering whether I can get another visa exemption (visa run) or if I have to get a tourist visa to stay in Thailand.

What is confusing is that I have quite a few visa exemption stamps and I am not sure which count towards my 90 days in 6-months window. My stamps are:

Jan 8, 2008 - Arrived in Thailand

Feb 5, 2008 - Same day visa run in Ranong (Burma)

Feb 19, 2008 - Departed Thailand

Apr 27, 2008 - Arrived in Thailand

May 15, 2008 - Departed Thailand

Aug 6, 2008 - Arrived Thailand

Aug 30, 2008 - Same day visa run in Poipet (Cambodia)

Now I have until Sept 28th, 2008 before my visa exemption expires. My question is, can I do another visa run? Or do I need get a tourist visa? Some people on this forum mentioned they don't really care about the 90 days in 6-months rule if you are well dressed, etc....is that true?

If I need a tourist visa, is Vientiane best? How many days does it take? Do they require a flight out of Thailand? If so, within 30 or 60 days? Is there any reason why I would need a double-entry tourist visa as opposed to a single entry?

Thanks!! :o

Will not attempt to answer 90 day question.

Yes, Vientiane is a good place to obtain a tourist visa. As we don't know your plans how can we advise on one or two entry? It should take two business days and flight is not normally required.

You can do one more 30day VisaRun.

Your first sixmonth period was from 8.Jan to 7.July.

The second sixmonth period has started on 6.August and will finish on 5.Feb next year.

Dresscode has nothing to do with the 90days rule.

Specially the bordercrossing with a lot of VisaRunners (Ranong,Aran,Ban Laem) will check the number of days very carefully.
