Visa Run - Where To Go?

Featured Replies

I have a visa run due this Friday and I'm unsure where to go. I am looking to spend the weekend somewhere, whether it be on the Thai side or neighbouring countries side. I will be leaving BKK on Friday at lunchtime by car.

Can anyone recommend a place to go? I'm not fussy if it's Laos, Cambodia or Myanmar.

Thanks in advance.

Laos or Myanmar will mean a very long drive in the car.

I suggest you look at the closer locations along the Cambodian border,

probably one of the small crossing points.

If it is registered in your name, then you can take the car across the border

and explore inside Cambodia. Be sure to take the registration book with you.

Need the car "passport" from your local DMV for a crossing to Cambodia??

Me, I'd head up to Nong Khai, about 7-8 hour drive for me, leave the car in the caged secure parking at the van station, baht 100 a day. Lots of guest houses, the wife & I stayed at the Mali Namphu last trip in August. Lots of eateries in town, good Beer Lao!

What are the Myanmar options other than Ranong?

Mae Sot is near Tak, 5-7hour drive from BKK.

Nice scenic area, stay on the Thaiside and just do the borderrun.

Another option is Mae Sai in Chiang Rai province .

Fly ?

Thailand teacher, you talk about a visa run, so do you have to get a new visa or do you just need to cross the border and come right back in?

Unfortunately we can't fly as the wife is 7 months pregnant.

I'm thinking either Koh Chang and do a quick border hop on the way home or Mae Sot.

I guess it's gonna be a heads or tails decision.

Cheers for the help
