Tony Clifton
We were talking about driving for an hour and go shopping in BKK but my wife today said her dad told her that you now need a special permit to ride around with a fiberglass cab on the back of your pick-up truck or the police will hand out a fine now if they see you. Ever heard of this? I haven't , it's apparently new. This means families riding in the back can't escape from the hot sun or rain without a paying for license or get a fine? I think this is just yet another of the multiple scams by the men in cockroach-brown uniforms.
scifi
I have seen this mentioned before in a couple of threads. You might have to dig around in the search to find them. I don't know if it is true, but several people here seemed to have been warned about it.
kartman
Road Tax on trucks is based on their weight among other things, when you put a fibreglass/steel roof on it you are supposed to go to LandTransport Office and have it re-weighed, details in blue book changed to a higher tax amount. Police are probably just stopping trucks with tops asking to see blue book or copy and when they see standard manufacturers weight on it, issue fines, not a scam without the weight adjusted the truck is illegal. scifi
Makes a lot more sense when you put it like that, kartman.
Tony Clifton
Sure does make sense re-weighing afterwards. Still a scam when most fines never make it to government coffers.

Yes and an exceptionally easy one when the punters incriminate themselves by handing you the evidence!
