Cheap Runaround?

Featured Replies

Hi

I need a cheap but reliable car for the next 2 years. I've got my eyes on a '92 toyota corona.

I took it round to the toyota garage and they reckon its in good order. They said its got new shocks, suspension and aircon. After asking them to check the engine, they switched it on, checked the idle revs (7-8 hundred rpm) revved it a few times and said its in working order.

The cars been owned by one guy since '92, the car mechanic at the front of my moobahn. He's asking 80 thousand for it.

Do you think its a fair price?

What issues would i have with repairs for a toyota 16 years old? Are parts standard for the corona? And if not would the costs be astronomical?

How else can I check the engine myself?

Thanks

Sounds okay any vehicle thats relitivley modern(Thai terms 16 years is) are normally B100000+ its an old car in falang terms, so you have to take it at face value, spares/ repairs will be cheap providing you get them done at the appropriate facility, only check you could do apart from oil/water levels after run (and cooled down) is find longish straight road drive car at 100kph then foot off gas still in gear when speed drops to50/40kph looking in rear mirror accelarate again if blue smoke worn valve guides, but most of these old engines are okay.
