Air Force admits plane accident

BANGKOK: -- An Air Force plane was involved in a minor accident on Monday, according to a statement released by the Royal Thai Air Force.

The aircraft, carrying members of an independent committee appointed to investigate a recent riot at Tak Bai Police Station in the country's southernmost province of Narathiwat, encountered a technical problem when it landed at the Air Force's runway in Bangkok, said the Royal Thai Air Force press release.

The plane’s front wheel axel suddenly broke, as it was landing.

It slid off the track and blocked the runway.

Another C-130 plane carrying Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-Ngam and the press corps circled over the runway for an hour before landing safely.

No one was injured in the accident.

The first plane was an AFRO type. It was in good condition and has had regular maintenance checks throughout it 40 years of service, according to the Air Force statement.
