hi,

i use to visit pattaya very often. mostly because of the sport-bikes. that's my real love..

i was wondering. is it possible to take a rental bike (which rented in pattaya) , out of pattaya? let's say, all the way to Chiang-mai ?

in case that the owner agree to delete the paragraph that says not to take the bike too far (150km tops)

are there any real issues in taking the bike that far? (cops, plates, insurence etc..)

thanks..

Ive done It, never had a problem ,never told them, got stopped twice paid 300 baht and was on my way, in over 10 years of riding all over thailand i have NEVER been asked for a book,BUT remember, IF you have an accident you will be shelling out big money,if you can afford it do it,if not dont,.

thanks alot.

by saying 'got stopped and paid 300' you meen you got pulled over ? (what for? speeding, book, helmet? out of curiosity..)

as for an accident , i know a few renters who werent asking for neither id nor passport as they set us up wit a brand new r1's

would this minor detail stand by my side in case of any dammage/accident that caused to the bike?

i mean, if i'm renting without giving them any ID, they won't have any leverage on me in a case of an accident. am i right?

thanks again

I'd recommend against doing it, but some like to live dangerously. As stated, an accident will be repaired by the rental company using the garage of their choice. And as you can imagine, it's not a garage that will give the most favourable rates on parts and repairs.

The questionable state of the papers in regards to legality of the bike being on the road could also arise. Should an overly friendly B.I.B. decide that while you're riding through his moo-ban you were going to contribute to his mia noi fund and then decided to confiscate the bike, you could be looking at a very expensive contribution before the bike was released. And if they won't release it, your passport could be withheld until it was.

thanks for the usefull information.

first of all: what's a B.I.B / moo ban / mia noi?

second , i didnt get it correctly. why should anybody condiscate the bike?

third, if and when somebody confiscate my bike, how much should i pay in order to take it out of his filthy hands?

4th, are you guys thais?

bib is boys in brown otherwise known as filth or boys in blue(uk terminology) or also known as the police, moo ban is basically his area and mia noi is his bit on the side......translated as small wife but requires big money to keep one happy

bike wouldnt be condiscated, but maybe confiscated due to the bib taking a liking to it and you not being the owner or any other reason he decides........what r u gonna do,tell him you rented it in pattaya...boy he would smile.

if it does get confiscated then the amount you would pay depends on various elements......mainly how much they can squeeze you for so your negotiation skills will be fully tested at this point.nobody could say exact amount now as depends on the extortionist and how much he fancies at the time.

i guess the guys arent thai!!

hope this helps you

i dont know how you rent a new large cc bike without giving passport or copy,do you give large deposit???? if not then why do you care if it gets confiscated....not your problem as long as you dont come back to pattaya for a long long while :o

dude you are hilarious !!!!

you cracked me up !! :D

i was just wondering whether if they are thai or not, beacuz if they ARE thai, the rules arent taking place on them....The mentioned above "B.I.B", are looking for a frash meat such as a young white british on a R1 speeding his way on their own MOO-BAN , and dont give a dam_n if a thai driiver breaks some rules.

as for the passport...call it a miracle....but yes, it won't the first time that im renting a big cc bike without givin em my id/passport

as for the b.i.b pissing at my bike and taking the keys....im familiar with the script...things are allways gettin settled with the assistance of a few handreds of bahts

Dude, what are you worried about? You will be on an R1. Don't think there are very many street legal vehicles in this country that you can't outrun. :D The BIB's on their Tiger boxers shouldn't be a problem if you dig what I am saying. :o

DUDE....when im being asked to pull over IM PULLIN THE fuc_k OVER...no games...

i dont wanna get messed up messed....

DUDES, it's late, I'm full of San Miguel and you w*nkers are talking like you just escaped from some low-rent LA film set!!!

In the real world, if a cop wants to bust you and make things difficult for you "a few hundred baht" is not gonna make him look the other way. I run a rent shop in Chiang Mai and surrendering the passport is the norm. I don't know what arrangement you have for an R1 in Pattaya but I would imagine that not returning a bike would lead to some very serious consequences for you. Up to you - if you watch too many movies and like to live life on "the wild side", go for it.....

Cheers,

Pikey.
