The Information and Communi-cations Technology (ICT) Ministry yesterday officially kicked off a

national knowledge portal website, where users can access a range of information as part of the ministry’s plan to promote a knowledge-based society.

The Thailand Knowledge Centre portal, http://www.Tkc.go.th, currently hosts 13 topics: law, sports, science, ICT, tourism, general knowledge, art, education, engineering, knowledge management, local wisdom, agriculture and health.

Virtual museums and online libraries are also available, plus links to 15,000 homepages.

The website’s contents, most of which were in Thai, could be accessed via personal computers and mobile phones, said Dr Sayun Hannarong, intelligent system specialist at the ICT Ministry, who led the development of the portal.

He said that information had been contributed and updated by experts in all the above-mentioned fields, and users can easily access the well-organised information.

Sayun said that the Thai Knowledge Centre was in the first phase of development. In later phases, teachers would be able to log on to create educational text by using simple tools available on the website.

ICT Minister Surapong Suebwonglee said that the Cabinet had already approved a budget of Bt60 million for fiscal 2005 for further improvements to the site.

The minister initiated the project last year.

30% of the front page is off the edge of the screen - need to use the horizontal scroll bar - and one of the pictures is badly distorted, but as it is a picture of Toxin it's hopefully intentional, so I give them 6 out of 10 for layout but a bonus of 4 for squashing Toxin. :D

Pity it's mostly in Thai. :o

I give them zero ! Both of the links on the intro page => internal server error ! Check out the email in the error message:

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

Ergh...I hope they put a bit more effort than that into their security. Lucky they aren't running a nuclear reactor. Nice to see they thought about a mobile version though.

Edit: Finally got through (by sitting out the intro). Wow, they did do a job on Taksin. Or maybe his head has always been that shape, I'm not sure...

The site totally blasts apart in Firefox, not pretty.
