Elvis Has Now Left The Building

Elvis Ballard, one of, if not THE greatest Elvis impersonator in Thailand, died very unforunately of cancer some months ago.

Is there any good reason therefore why his picture is still being used by the Jomtien Boathouse and Captains Corner to advertise their weekly Elvis nights (now in the good care of Elvis Arthur) on site, on Pattaya People Television and in local newspapers.

I find it rather bizarre and disrespectful, and possibly upsetting for his family.

On the subject of Pattaya People TV some of their adverts, before during and after the news are so old, crummy ,out of date and repetetive that they have no effect whatsoever anymore.

There is one where an Asian couple have difficulty finding the right end of a telescope which is shown 3 or 4 times each session and advertises nothing at all, what's that all about ??

Happy Days :o:D

Why don't you ask the Jomtien boathose or Captains corner? :o

BTW Captains corner and Jomtien Boathouses owner was the key figure in the charity events that raised cash to provide schooling and a bit of financial stability for Ballards daughter so they can't be all bad can they?

:D

I never suggested they were bad,at all.

I indeed purchased 3 x 500B tickets to take myself and 2 friends to the 'do' at the

Boathouse on 16th. August.

I just feel it a little thoughtless not to recognise the new scheme of things, and a bit demeaning too for the 'new' Elvis.

Apologies if i came over a bit rude, I've seen the signs although that was over a month ago.

i went also with the wife and one of the singers from the bar.

Just remember what 'Colonel' Tom Parker said upon hearing that THE Elvis had died: "It doesn't mean a dam_n thing ... This changes nothing."

EDIT - Ooooh! That's clever, I always assumed people inserted the '_' in risque words themselves, but the forum does it for them... :o

maybe a bit off topic and in no way meant to disrespect the deceased....but what is the point of all those Elvis impersonators? There are 100s of bands in town playing all sorts of music, ranging from Wonderful Tonight to Hotel California without impersonating the original artist...why is it that once you sing an Elvis song you have to dress up in a white jump suit?

Firstly , I would suggest the Jumpsuit or the Gold Lame Jacket is the image most remembered & probably revered of one of the greatest entertainers of the 20th Century.

Use of images has always been the norm hasn't it.?

How many Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, John Wayne,Marilyn Monroe ,James Dean , Che Guevera etc images abound in every shape or form.? (Posters,TShirts,Tattoos,Prints )

This has always seemed to me to be a message that these people influenced Society in some way. ??

Imitation is the greatest form of a compliment , I have always been told

that does not really answer my question/observation. I haven't seen any Stones/Beatles/Who/Doors/whateverband impersonators (except for one time in Hong Kong and it was a rather bizarre show) even though their influence into the music was at least as big as Elvis.

However, when they sing Elvis, they put the jump suit on. To me, a phenomenon that needs further research... :D

In England , I saw there were several 'Beatles' Bands with the Mop Top hair & crew neck suits . ther is at least one in Oz , & more than one ABBA Band with all the outfits associated with their Persona,in Vegas there are severa full time shows running & includes 'Tina Turner' , 'Cher' etc & they have toured in UK,(Where the BBC ran the World 'Elvis' Look-a-like Championship this last Feb , (Won by Shawn Klush of Pennysylvannia) , they have also toured Japan,Australia,Germany & all these countries have their mimics.

I know what you mean , but, after the 'Elvis Aloha from Hawaii World TV Spectacular' I don't think there will be any more powerful image associated with an Entertainer. The Jump Suit helps with the message they are trying to convey I guess.

By the way there was a 'Mick Jagger' in Melbourne for some years & in the USA I remember there are at least 2 Agebcies specialising in 'Look-a-likes' & there was a big one in London called 'Double Image' , they even had a 'Frank Spencer' who Always wore a Beret & Trenchcoat.

Guess it is all Image association & the 'Elvises' all wear Jump suits. Best assist I can pass on

"I haven't seen any Stones/Beatles/Who/Doors/whateverband impersonators"

well that is an extremely blinkered observation.

Many individuals and bands all over the world make good livings out of impersonating other famous bands....notably

ABBA

The Doors

Beatles

Tina Turner

there was even a series on UK TV - (was it "Stars in their Eyes??)

personally I think it is all quite dreadful....but tat doesn't mean there isn't a lot of it.

THe more I hear his music and see his image ,the more I'm convinced Elvis must be of Asian blood though....why else would so many of his impersonators come from Indian or S.E. Asian stock?
