Strange "windows" Email

Featured Replies

I just got an Email in my Gmail spam box with a topic something like... "Update Windows anti virus now, yours expires soon".

I deleted it's ass, unopened, in a nanosecond.

I mean, Windows updates come down automatically normally.

Don't they?

Yes - the email was probably carrying a virus load.

Within the Control Panel of your computer you can set whether the Windows OS updates are downloaded and installed automaticly or not, however personally I would suggest that you switch this feature to manual control as Windows will quite happily force a reboot while you are in the middle of working on something unless you catch it in time to stop it trashing your work. You can see that this is experiance talking.

Also not every update is an improvement. IMHO

Something that also crossed my mind was that it could have been a con to get some details off me.

I think that I have the setting you mention on manual because it asks me if I want to reboot then or later.

I must admit I often wonder what they consist of, but I'm sure Micro$ has our best interests at heart.

Thanks very much for the help.
