I'm a 35 year old American with a Thai wife and we have a child together. I've been in Thailand with a non immigrant type B visa, which expired in July. I'm now in Thailand on a 60 day extension until Oct 20. I need to stay in Thailand for another four or five months. Previously, it was recommended to me to get a 90 day non immigrant O visa, which I think was for family visits. First off, is there an income requirement for this type of visa? Also which country would be more likely to issue this visa or a multiple entry without income? I'd rather not go back to Laos, so is Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur or Penang) or Singapore a viable option?

Thanks for the help.

No income requirement for a non-O visa to visit Thai wife and child. Kuala Lumpur was the best destination for a multiple-entry non-O visa until recently but about a week ago one member posted that they now only give the single-entry visa. Penang recently started issuing the multiple-entry non-O visa. See this post for links to members’ posts reporting their experiences in different locations:

Another four or five months, you say. If you are unlucky and get only a single entry non-O visa you can, during the last 30 days, apply at an immigration office for a 60-day extension to stay with Thai wife and child.
