It's a centipede and indeed they are venomous and can delivery a nasty bite. I don't know what the Thai is for it though.

The following is a good site to ID bugs. It is of mainly insects and does not include centipedes, but you may find it interesting.

Sorry, this is the site: http://www.thaibugs.com/

A couple of weeks ago we got a call from my wifes sister early in the morning and she said that she was in hospital suffering from a snake bite. She was walking home from her mothers house carrying her young son and she decided to take a short cut rather than stick to the main road. She felt a very sharp pain in her left leg just above the ankle. The creature then disappeared leaving her with a nasty painful bite. She rushed home and her husband drove her to the nearest hospital in Si Sa Ket. By this time her leg was really swollen and very painful, she was in agony (her words). The doctor examined the two small holes in her leg and declared that it looked like but was not a snake bite. As it turned out with a more thorough examination it was a centepide that was the culprit! Apparently these things are as thick as your finger and can grow to around 9 inches.

It took a couple of days for the swelling to go down and she is fine now. There are some scary things out there.

Agreed - I was bitten a few years ago up in the wilds - very painful.

Those little gits have got me twice now ..

One time between the toes as I lifted my foot It was longer than my size 11s ...

Second time in a T-shirt on the inner arm.

Trying killing them they are like the terminator keep going and going.

how did it manage to crawl up there....? :o

I have seen the two half of one large specimen running around independantly after being chopped in half with a machete, it was also hissing loudly and spitting venom. Scary stuff.

Probably the most nasty of creepy crawlies in Thailand. Nothing will help the painful bite unless it's soda taken with half a bottle of Johnnie Walker (and that's not for pouring on the wound).

Recommend Neurophen immedieately, 2 tablets, every 4 hours for the first 24 hours, and a good antibiotic for a week. The bite can be real nasty and put people in serious danger if they have poor circulation.

Put some in a bottle of Vodka for a month.

Gives that extra sting. :o
