most Thai music I hear in the radio , sounds to me as a cross between The Carpenters, and Captain and Tenille music, of the seventies, that could make excellent elevator music, most contain a rhyme composed of the combination of " mai, chai, and pushai".

Of course there is no objective way to judge music, if you like it , it is good.

I enjoy Issan music, it is fun. to listen and dance

Do a reach on You tube for "Isaan music" and you will get many returns, if you like what you hear, there is a website that will convert the videos in to MP3 for your I tunes or cd. at video2mp3 .net

I particularly like Siriporn

Pee Saderd

Try playing this music at a party with out having every one up and dancing.

Ponsak singing about the exploitation of uneducated workers

Also singing about the exploitation of young Thai women by fat , old, bald menbiggrin.png

[media=]

I will admit , my Thai is not all that good yet, But I was confused by the images from Santorini , and Miconos in a Thai song that supposedly sings about the exploitation of " Uneducated workers"

and Would the singer be more happy if the Thai women were exploited by skinny old man with all their hair?laugh.png

My apologies, the video I put up of Ponsak singing' Poor people far from home' is not the original which is far better, both in the power of his voice and images, which were of Issan people working on a building site in Bangkok. The pretty views in this video bear no relation to the words of the song.

In fact we could start a new thread to see who could come up with the greatest discrepancy between the lyrics and video of a song!

IMHO:

the "old" Silly Fools stick out by far. Listen to songs like "Kid tueng" or "150cc" from their overall good album "Mint"!

Other of my personal favorites are Monky Pants,Hangman, Da Endorphine, some KLEAR-songs are nice, some "new" Silly Fools, Bodyslam or Kanom Jean

...just stay away from those boygroup/girlgroup K-pop imitations...they basically suck b@lls (looking at most of them,

they might also do it litterally) and the mostly cildishly horrible "look tung"-stuff.

As I said before , there no such thing as bad music, if you like it , then it is good music for you.

and that is also true with the above posted song.

Ron likes it , and in that respect it is good for Ron, and I enjoyed it also , as I am sure many others did, ( Thank you Ron) , there is only one thing wrong with it.

IMHO It is not Thai music, it does have lyrics in Thai language, and is sung by a Thai man, but it is not Thai,

if I am correct in my identification, it is reggae Music,

Though non the less enjoyable, and an good example of the adaptability of Thai .music, and the versatility of Thai musicians

I like your comments and thank you for them. There is no question that it is most certainly reggae but gee I'm not so sure that it is sung by a thai man. I could be wrong but in the clip, he looks to me to me that he could be from the West Indies. Also ,they have an english version which I have posted in the " Farang Pub, Fun, Entertainment and Expat Life " forum. It is under " If you are listening to music now " post #562.Cheers

BTW ---- Potato is a great group as well

whistling.gif My 64 year old Thai wife and her 45 year old daughter are BIG Potato fans.

Basically founding members of the local Potato fan club.

Not sure if at 64 years old my wife is their oldest fan...but she has to be close.

There's a 19 year old grand daughter in the house too...but she thinks Potato is just too old and boring!

My Thai wife has been on facebook from the potato concert where she presented a gift to the band...and they called her up onto the stage....and she danced with them.

But in my house the really big thing is K-pop....Korean males (supposedly....but I'm not so sure) and those "surgically enhanced" long-legged Korean female singers and dancers.

In fact the house joke is that in order to enter this house and watch music video ...first you need to get a Korean visa to enter.
