My wife is now in the UK (with about 5 blankets wrapped around her). Thank you to everyone who helped me in the application process.

Now we are in the UK I'm struggling to find out what I need to do next. Surely I have to register the marriage here for the records to show that I am now married.

And once she's found a job, will the employer sort out national insurance or do we have to do that?

Or does anyone know of a website that will answer all my questions?

Thanks again

Congrats :o !

You dont have to register the marriage in the UK as long as u registered at the amphur in BKK, so no probs there.

As for NI just ring up your local job centre and make an appointment with them top apply for a NI number, only takes a simple form and a few minutes and they send one in the post a few weeks later, my wife got hers in about 2/3 weeks back in June this year.

As far as i am aware her employer wont sort this out, but would require one when she starts to work, although my wife was lucky, as her employer gave her job when she had just applied for her NI and didnt actually have one!

With regards to the blankets, it gets worse! My wife now sleeps with 2 pairs of socks, bathrobe, scarf and gloves (no joke!!) and says how she really doesnt like winter in the UK! When i said it hasnt even started yet, it didnt go down to well!

Good luck

Firstly, you don't need to register the marriage anywhere.

Secondly, get her name on as many Utility bills as possible. Water, Gas, Telephone, Electric etc. Do this NOW, do NOT wait. Keep the bills in a file, as these will be needed in two years time and will be needed as part of her ILR application. Also, get her registered at your local Doctor's.

Thirdly, get her on a local college ESOL, that includes the Life In The UK element.

They are just the first things to do off the top of my head, other members may have other suggestions.

Good luck.

Edit// Sorry, newstart was posting at the same time, so apologies for any duplication.
