Can A Maid Etc Get Social Security

Featured Replies

Is it possible..easy...or inadvisable to pay tac and get Social Security for a household servant. I am not interested in all the people who will say "Do it yourself" but in real replies.

I would feel that this is fair to the person as they get the opportunity of having good health care.

I know this can be done if you have a company but I mean as a personal thing without having a company.

I dont know for sure if without having any kind of set up you are able to pay for someone in your employ.

I do know that as an individual, they can opt to pay for the social security (which you can pay on their behalf), but its not the best set up in that to be able to do so, they would have needed to have a social security card (through an employer) for at least one year

eg. your maid was previously working in factory / office/ other job that was registered as business and paid her social security. if she had been in that employ for at least 1 year, and hasnt let things lapse for more than 6 months, she can continue to maintain the social security payment, even when not employed by a company.

if thats not the case...my info ends here. you will have to do a bit more research.

sorry if it doesnt apply to her case.

I employed my maid through my company structure and paid the social for her, plus had an extra employee. Not sure how it works with a private employer, would think it doable.

The first approach would work, but it isn't clear from the SSS website whether the second would.
