Much comment has been made recently about the aftermath of the clashes between PAD and police with most discussion concentrated on a sort of "Cluedo" game where everyone is trying to decide "who did what, to who, where and with what". What I am interested to know is what could happen if the PAD are successful in overthrowing the government and "new politics" is introduced. Currently this seems to suggest that votes cast by the citizens of Thailand will only be relevant to electing 30-50% of the parliament, depending on whose figures you believe. My question is who will be responsible for appointing the non-elected members of the parliament and where do they expect to find 300-400 citizens who are qualified and sufficently "pure of reputation" to fill these posts. It should be remembered that in Thailand the government (Prime Minister) is responsible for appointing the head of the police and the various armed forces groups, the person(s) who control the government therefore control Thailand. At present the 1 person 1 vote system is perhaps not perfect in that some allegations of vote buying are always made but at least "the people" get the government they vote for.

They cannot win a "free" election because the numbers are not there. Unless, you mean if PAD's proxy the military decides to have another go at a coup. If so, look for major international sanctions.

Thaksin's meddling gave the PAD leaders an opportunity to return to their successful formula: Thaksin out! Samak out! Somchai out! Whatever out! Just shake your hand-clapper. It would be hard to find a device that symbolises simple conformity so aptly.

In the PAD's claims, Thaksin is so fearsome that their own actions are justified. The ordinary people attending the rallies wear caps and shirts claiming they are "saving the country" and tell interviewers they are there because they want to protect the King. The siege of Parliament was an attempt to overthrow the government by semi-constitutional means. This is not peaceful protest but violence justified in the name of a cause. As Sondhi explained, the PAD has recruited paid militia, mostly among former soldiers and policemen. Some notorious veterans of underground warfare have helped with training. Weapons seized from the PAD have ranged from guns to golf clubs. In the videos of 7 October, the PAD militia were armed with sticks, pipes, poles, handguns, slingshots and a variety of missiles including home-made grenades and raw sewage.

Look at the cast of characters skulking in the shadows of the past week's events: Chavalit, Chamlong, Phanlop, Prasong. The dirty violence, traditionally attributed to a "third hand" is an absolutely guaranteed element of such events with such people around. The sickening deaths and injuries were not unfortunate but inevitable.

Perhaps the saddest sight in all this is the Democrat Party. So many of their core constituents support the PAD that any dissent by the Democrats would be electoral suicide, but now they are hitched to the baggage train of a movement that claims the right to use violence and overrule law in order to overthrow an elected government.

.... a movement that claims the right to use violence and overrule law in order to overthrow an elected government.[/i]

The same half truths and manufactured "views", keep reoccurring here from the same pseudonyms in arguments directed against the PAD!

It's starting to get real funny!

The leading majority was elected, yes, but their election was riddled by electoral fraud, the leading party, the PPP is a proxy of the already dissolved TRT, because nearly all of it's members are RELATIVES of already BANNED politicians from the dissolved TRT Party of ousted ex-Prime Minister and Ex-Party leader Taksin Shinawatra, who has been found guilty in 5 criminal offenses and is on the run with his wife Pojamarn who has been found guilty of one offense connected to her husbands position as Prime minister, now they are seeking "political asylum" in the UK!

Other parties of this coalition are under investigation and will be dissolved if found guilty!

This and more transparency, to abolish deeply entrenched corruption, nepotism, favoritism and nothing else the PAD is out there to ensure!

Everything else is cheap trick propaganda, biased and manufactured to blackmail and discredit the good intentions of the Movement of the PAD!

So the "policy" of the PAD is not to remove the one person one vote "democracy" that is the current standard here in Thailand?

So the policy of appointing 50-70% of the members of parliament rather than electing them will "abolish deeply entrenched corruption, nepotism, favoritism" Are you sure?

aimed at samuins post

oh so it wasnt the PAD who attacked a telivision station whilst armed and its not the PAD who persist with their tresspass of Government House, and it's not the PAD i have seen guarding ASTV with weapons. These are all government supporters just out to besmirch the good name of the PAD.

wow the people propigating this propoganda must be really good to be able to this under the very noses of the PAD

:o get real, the PAD are nothing more than a bunch of criminals who have long gone past what is acceptable behaviour to present their argument in a sensible manner, next you will be trying to tell us that it was the police who shot 4 of their own to discredit the PAD :D

lets just get this clear, from day one the PAD have not been conducting a peaceful protest as could be seen from their actions on day one of their current farce.

So you may ask if I am pro government, the answer is no, but i am 100% anti PAD
