Hi, I said I would keep you up to date after my last visit to immigration about 2 weeks ago, but there was nothing to say, apart form the fact that they are not keen on giving you the right info, and not very friendly either.

So i found out most thanks to Thaivisa!

This morning I was there for myself for a 30 day extension of TV ( no problem, passport + copy of pass, visa, imm. stamp, departure card and 1900 Baht ) it was done in 15 min.

For Jane change of visa to retirement.

Same copies + proof of income from the Norwegian Embassy that was done in 4 days and 1300 Baht .

We've had the letter from the bank but they said we didn't need it because the Consul was kind enough to state in the letter that her yearly income was x in Thai Baht. (Thank God for that, because of the exchange rates right now!!)

So we went in the office and the immigration officer looked at all the papers and said it was 2000 Baht, for change of visa, then started counting days, gave back the 2000 Baht because Jane needed 21 days. So she needed a 30 day extension first, 1900 Baht. Some more copies, and again the 2000 Baht was asked for and we had to wait outside. It didn't take long before Jane could pick up her passport with her extension, and a Non Immigrant-O visa for 3 months

Here's the tricky part.

Jane's extension is stamped from October 22 - November 24, BUT her non imm. visa was ALSO stamped from October 22 now til January 18, and she had to come back before December 18 with all the SAME papers (which they have now).

Does that mean we've lost one month, and that we have to get a new letter from the Embassy in two months??

Little bit stupid no ?

The rule is that you must have at least 21 days left on your permission to stay to get the change of Visa.

She extended for 30 days 1,900 Baht. She now has more than 21 days left so she upgraded to a Non Imm O 2,000 Baht. About 1 month before this expires she goes back to apply for the annual retirement extension 1,900 Baht.

As far as I know she will need all the documentation again. I am not sure if that means another Embassy Letter or not. Only Immigration can tell you that.

Her 12 month extension will start from January 18th.
