That's assuming there's really an employee there, and they're even reading their e-mail. Musk is of the belief that some employees aren't even real and paychecks are going out to nefarious actors. And other so called employees aren't working at all. Whether he's right or wrong, I can't think of an easier way to ferret them out. I think of it as a 2FA to get your paycheck. Employee Arrested After Stealing Employer’s Safe to Fund Gambling and a Foreign Trip

In a striking case of betrayal, police in Nakhon Ratchasima have apprehended a 31-year-old employee for allegedly stealing a safe from his employer’s home and using the proceeds for online gambling and a trip across the border. The arrest took place on February 25 at around 14:30, lead by Police Colonel Sutthinan Khongchaemdee, the head of Nakhon Ratchasima City Police Station. Accompanying him were various officers involved in the investigation, including Police Lieutenant Colonel Uthis Chobchuen and Police Lieutenant Colonel Somporn Thongpradab. The suspect, identified only as Mr. Kitti, was apprehended in a room on Soi Saeng Arun in Muang District, Mukdahan, where authorities discovered a trove of stolen goods. Among the items recovered were: • Six amulets • Cash amounting to 46,205 baht • An Oppo mobile phone with a charger • An iPhone with a charger • One black shoulder bag • One black handbag • A green Yamaha Fino motorcycle (without a license plate) • A tampered safe • A document case containing land titles and other paperwork Colonel Sutthinan elaborated on the events leading up to the arrest, revealing that on February 17, officers received a report of a burglary at a residence in Moo 8, Nong Bua Sala District. The homeowner had been away since February 13 and discovered the theft upon returning. The stolen safe contained several valuable items, including 10 baht of gold and 427,000 baht in cash. Police investigations quickly identified Mr. Kitti as the culprit. It was revealed that he had taken advantage of his employer’s absence on the night of February 15, climbing over the fence and breaking into the house to steal the safe. He transported the safe on his motorcycle to a location near a pond on Chai Mongkhon Road, where he attempted to open it before discarding it in the water. Following his theft, Mr. Kitti fled to Bangkok for a night, then travelled to Khon Kaen and Mukdahan, where he rented a room. He reportedly used the stolen funds to engage in online gambling before crossing into Laos to enjoy a lavish holiday for a few days, funded by his ill-gotten gains. However, his freedom was short-lived, as he was ultimately captured by the authorities. This incident raises serious questions about trust in employer-employee relationships and the lengths to which some may go to satisfy their desires. As investigations continue, locals are left to ponder the implications of such brazen acts of theft and betrayal of trust. -- 2025-02-26
