Copy/paste Does Not Work

Featured Replies

suddenly, out of the blue, cut/copy/paste stopped working.

I am using XP SP2.

After I reboot my PC that function is back to normal... but what can cause this trouble?

Of course I can't reboot every time the copy/paste comand stops functioning.

A full clippoard? (don't know how to clear it) and Google shows many links related to that but I could not

find a solution for my problem.

Did someone on this board face simmilar problems? Maybe Raimar knows a solution?

Thanks

I have encounted this problem and similar within one of my Vista computers, it occurs generally after the computer has been running for some time (days rather than hours) and normally while I have a number of windows/IE Tabs and applications open and closing down etc. is not convenient.

If you are comfortable playing with Task Manager (experiment if not), I found that selectively killing applications (IE tabs/windows) that stuck freed up access to the clipboard and opening new applications like Notepad or Calc that otherwise would not respond.

On Vista things settled down a little after SP1, yes I know you are on XP.

For Windows XP

Begin by first clicking on the Start Button.

Then click on Run Icon, which will open up the Run Menu for you.

Locate the white area of the screen next to the word Open: in the Run Menu.

Now type in the abbreviated word Clipbrd and click on the OK button to launch the Program.

Notice how the Clipboard contains a record of your recent copy and paste inputs.

To empty your Clipboard, click on the word Edit located within your top tool bar area.

Then click on the word Delete from the pull down menu that appears.

Windows will ask you if you want to Clear the contents of the Clipboard.

Click on the Yes button to allow Windows to clear the Clipboard.

Notice how your former imputed information is now cleared from the Clipboard.

Then close the Clipbook Viewer Window to return to your Windows session.

Thanks, thats a good advise and I will follow it. Yes I am working with a lot of programs open, like almost Adobe CS3 range, Word, Thunderbird, Firefox and more... and access them with multi tasking.

My computer sometimes runs for days without shutting it down. I suspect a program which might cause this issue but really got know idea what could it be.

With me it tended to be a tab within IE 7 that had stuck - taking the whole application with it. (Web site code that stuck on one of the pop-up or other code blockers within my browser enviroment?)

I was keen to see that Google's Chrome was out to address this issue and tried it out - but is wasn't ideal for me.

Maybe you try to use an Memory Manager which will free up the physical memory

Cheers.
