We tried to look many way to do for go over this problem, my husband never been in Thailand and thinking to move to Thailand, so he would like to see Thailand one time before to move there but I am afraid if he could fly to Thailand but could not fly back to Europe for clear everything (visa, our job,things..etc.) to be ready before move to Thailand what we will have to do, I think will come more problem, but if he realy can not fly we have to choose travel by boat or other way, he said he will give kiss to the land of Thailand when he could arrived because so difficult for him to arrive there.

There are cruises from Europe to Thailand for sure.

Once while dining in this hotel in Bangkok, the whole place filled with this group of Westerner tourists from the cruise ship. Check it out ....Vacation toGo.com

cmbe, if you ever wants to go to the US ( may be in the future) without flying.

It is good to know there are many convenient and easy options to choose from.

Norwegian Cruise Lines offers cruise from Barcelona to Manhattan, NY. Also cruise from Miami, Florida to Barcelona. Makes it a nice round trip between Europe and USA. :D

FYI, I'm not affiliated with the NCL. I was merely a passenger on this ship. :o

I checked vacation to go.com and registered to ask more information but they not answer me yet.

cmbe, seeing that you have little trouble gotting their reply, so I went back to their web site to check it out again.

They have cruise from Europe to Bangkok, ports of call....Lam Chabang, Klong-Teuy. They also lists several toll free numbers for many countries in Europe. It would be easier if I know what country (in EU you from), so I can relate to you.

I've been their customer (a happy one) for many years. I have nothing but good thing to say about them. They are fast and efficient in bookings your trip. Their web site has dozens of anykind of trip. More selections and varied in prices. Give them a try.

Thanks again Tinkelbell, I live in Belgium but I can go to every port in EU that near Belgium, and port in UK I have to ask visa to go to UK because I am still Thai citizen.

What an interesting thread. CMBE, i'd love to have an update on how you actually get here.

I certainly wasnt aware it was possible to do it overland.

Good that it's still possible.

My own passion is sailing, and i know it's definitely possible to do it as crew on a sailing boat that is being delivered to this part of the world. Problem is that the dates usually wont fit in with dates that are convenient for you!

Good luck and i look forwards to hearing about your experiences.

Personally, i'd take the train, not the bus. Lots more room to move about on the train.

A few hours ago I just contact to travel agency, they have a very cheap ticket from Brussel to Phuket on 6th November for one week (that is all rest of my vacation in This year) and it is direct flight but after take the time to think and talk together with my husband, the price is go up 6 times more, so we could not try to fly to Thailand (even I still fear to have the same sad feeling when I have to carry my luggages back home but still want to try).

If I have to choose between bus and train, I prefer train (I travel a lot with the bus when I was in Thailand and feel not so safe like travel by train) and it not so comfortable and less place to move or walk.

I would like to consult with specialist for phobia about flying, we did one time but not complete course because too much cost for us but it will be difficult to have a normal life if I have to think that we were moved to Thailand and this phobia stop our freedom lifes to travel anywhere we want and also not easy for him to come back to see his family in Europe too.

Regarding the fear of flying:

Isn't it possible to have the person sedated (sleep) for the duration of the flight?

In '83 I was on a flight from Saudi Arabia to BKK and while the plane was accelerating on the runway a woman a few rows in front of me started screaming 'let me off'. A flight attendant with the help of a male person sitting next to her (husband?) apparently forced her to drink something and a minute later all was calm.

On arrival in BKK she appeared to be drowsy and was put in a wheelchair but later at immigration I saw her standing in line with the male person as everybody else.

Probably the flight crew would have to be alerted in advance to a possible situation like that.

opalhort

About sedated, we already did it in first time when want to fly to Thailand with advice from doctor but not help and less than 30 minuites before check in time we went to Medical department to ask them what they can do in this case, they told me that my husband already took this sedated and can not took more than that, it will be dangerous,so no hoop, we can only walk out with unexplain feeling and get the train 2 hours back home.

But I heard from somebody told me that they have a some kind of medicine (for sleep) and sleep for 9 hours on airplain, for fly to Thailand need at least 10-11 hours and if take one more pill I have to think how I have to bring him in and out from airplain.

I asked my family already 2 times (first time they said : what is the problem, second time they say : again!! :o )to come to pick up at the airport but after this problem happened I have to call back to stop them to drive more than 300 km. to pick up us, I think they will never hear from me again when we want to go Thailand , I will call them when we already arrive in Thailand.

Sorry all guy that I talk so much about my situation problem, I think alone all one year long how I can do for help him and make our life easier, I am very appreciate for all advices.

cmbe,

If you're interested, here is the toll free no: 0800-753-66 (in Belgium)

0800-279-8084 (in UK)

I think it's worth to call since 'VacationToGo' offers tremendous choices, which enable you to choose the most for your trips. Besides if you're more flexable, you could get a very good deal like the one they advertise ......Last minute deal.

Good luck what ever avenue you take. :o

Dear cmbe,

I mentioned earlier about EFT. I urge you to look into this. Wouldn't it be nice if he could be cured of his phobia?

Go to this website, read about it and then look for a therapist in Brussels.

http://www.emofree.com/default.htm

Good luck,

Doug

I looked into EFT but it is in English, my husband can not read English so good, I can read(even not good) and translate to him in Dutch but will not have a good result, it will be better if he could read and understand by himself.

Once we took a course to fly with small Helicoptor, a pilot explained us so many things about airplane, the way to control, how safe of airplane, how they control runway and many things more and then we started to learn about helicoptor, sit inside with 3 passenger, take a time to know it and then fly; he could fly with helicoptor , he was quiet(even I know that he feel not good) and after landing we push helicoptor back to garage, he can sit inside, touch it and fly with and before he could not do it so I think now finish this problem but like you know all that I think wrong.

cmbe,

Does the $8000 price :D for two passengers in one cabin ? If it was quoted for one, then it's too high, do not take it. It doesn't make any sense at all. :o

If yes, and the 'port charged'....fuel surcharges....taxes.....fee are already included in this $8000, then it's quite reasonable for 2-3 weeks on the ship.

Cruise from US to EU usually offers 12-16 days crossing Atlantic Ocean (from my personal experience). I can imagine from EU to S.E. Asia would take at least 3 weeks crossing Pacific ( I may be wrong, never done on cruise to Asia yet), which comes out costing you less than $200 a day, which pays for hotel, 6 meals a day, nightly shows and other entertainments. It's not a bad deal after all. :D

I know you're going to take the route that best suits your husband's needs.

Good luck.

  • 8 months later...

I searched a lot of time to find the way to go to Thailand by boat, bus or train and I see the total cost is higher than by plane and take many days to go and return back to Europe, also it is not easy to manage everything before to leave,.. so I turn back to find the way how to fly to Thailand.

I found the way and a few months ago we were in Thailand, like a dream for me when I was sitting 11 hours on the plane but this Phobia is not finish, it will be the same problem everytime when I want to go back home.

Of course it's more expensive to go by land or boat, but what an interesting trip to Europe, especially by train.

And it's not so difficult, I guess only few visas to get to go to EU: Laos (or Cambodia + Vietnam) + China + Russia + Schengen

Am I right ?

Don't do it if the purpose is to save, but it must be a nice trip to do once in life and cross China + Russia.

Don't know about that now, but 20 years ago some people drove a newly ordered car from Germany to an Arabic country and get also paid for that. From there one could get a ship to India for almost nothing. Crossing the subcontinent by train or bus or even hitch hiking and then a ship again to Singapore or hop on the magic bus in India...don't know about that now...
