Rattana Kohsin has a lot of apartments for much less than this.  It is right across from the Pata and about a 15 minute walk from Central and Major.  This place used to have a beautiful pool as well, but there has been some problem with that.  The rooms are adequate, and some have great views.  You can go there and look on the bulletin boards to see which rooms are available (there will be many of them.)

Closer to Major is Charley House. I stayed there once when I was only here for two weeks and didn't want to rent a room at Rattana Kohsin.  It is quiet, fairly nice, and a 5 minute walk from Major. I think you can find them online.  I don't know what the monthly rate is, but you can probably bargain with him.

The two big hotels in the Baroom Rachachoni strip around Central are over-priced and not very nice.
